Prominent thinkers the world over realise that the old order has come to an end. We witness the crumbling of iron barriers between nations, hitherto believed to be unshakable and resistant to any attempt at change. However, the question remains, What is to emerge in place of the old?
I have shown in minute detail how the Measure of 9 and its inherent formula 9/6/3-0/1, has been active in the Indian subcontinent. But in India too in spite of this remarkable display of the power of gnostic time, the old order persists and we find no spirit in the nation bold enough to introduce the new. Consequently, we hear unending laments from the political opposition about the ‘dynastic rule’ of the Nehru family. I, for one, have often referred to the need to discard or drastically modify the actual parliamentary system of government precisely because its continued use OBLIGES this ‘dynasty’ to perpetuate itself. But the Opposition (as well as the ruling party) silences or disregards any voice that calls for a change in the system, often to the extent of accusing the innovator of wishing to introduce a dictatorship via, for example, the adoption of a presidential form of government. (How a presidential system can be equated with dictatorship is difficult to understand.) The result is that due to this resistance a thoroughly inadequate political structure must somehow serve as the vehicle for the Measure of 9 to hold the nation together.
India inherited its present system from the British. Many of the ills the nation suffers from can be traced to this factor: a ‘foreign’ system has been imposed upon a country which has not been allowed to breathe its independent breath and follow its own rhythms and expressions. This is easily appreciated in an assessment of the Indian model of parliamentary democracy compared to the British image of which it is meant to be a somewhat modified version.
To begin with, in Great Britain we have a true dynasty, a real and healthy monarchy. The monarch in England is not elected of course; he or she is a part of a lineage which cuts through time and is therefore independent of the uncertainties of political fortunes. Consequently, the enviable qualities of stability and continuity arise. They are not fictitious; they are real components of the national heritage.
However, this is not the Indian reality. Every effort has been made to create this situation in India via the office of President, which is meant to provide the same qualities of stability and continuity by being out of the political struggle of the various parties, whose members are elected to parliament approximately every five years on a representative basis. In this way the President stands outside of the political arena; and this, coupled with the fact that his election to office by members of Parliament ordinarily follows a different cycle than the parliamentary polls, is meant to provide that stability and continuity which the British system enjoys via its monarch.
However, we know that this is not the case. The British monarch and the Indian president have little in common because the former is not a construed but a real component based on a quasi organic, evolutionary fact. In contrast, the office of the Indian president is a fabricated imposition in an effort to mimic the British system by introducing a form of government which is supposed to produce the same results but without those legitimate components underlying the arrangement. Continuity and stability are characteristics which cannot be imagined or mentally devised. They come into being by virtue of a series of circumstances which organically confer these conditions in a process of natural development. They are not accommodations but come into being in harmony with certain essential ingredients found in the national psyche. When these conditions exist then stability and continuity become pillars for nation building.
Since this has been lacking in India the line of prime ministers – contrary to Great Britain – has had to serve as the element of continuity. Indeed, the most politically uncertain period India has known since independence was certainly the 2½ years of Opposition rule, from 1977 to end 1979, when there was no member of the ‘Nehru Dynasty’ in office.
Thus in opposing change to some other form of government which would better accommodate this legitimate need for a vehicle capable of providing continuity and stability, the Opposition is condemning itself to continuous defeat at the polls, inasmuch as the Nehru Lunar Line is the means to hold the country together, given the inadequate system India has adopted for her political expression. This is an example of the failure to recognise and appreciate the true character of a nation and the measure of its individual pulsation.
A development of this nature was seen as inevitable, from the cosmological point of view. The most revealing hint of it was the date of Independence itself. Though significantly falling on Sri Aurobindo’s birthday, I have often pointed out that the number-power of the day was 8, just one short of the complete cycle of 9. This fact reveals that full independence from the British had not been attained on some levels. More was yet to come to bring the movement to the 9, or the completed process. Sri Aurobindo himself, in his message to the nation at the time of Independence commented on this very fact: Independence had occurred on his birthday and was a confirmation of his work, but the partitioned condition of the nation had to be healed to make the movement worthy of his highest aims.
The prominent position of the 8 also reveals that there is a residue of a sort which does not easily allow the movement to complete itself. This is explicitly the problem India now faces.
We see that British rule left this residue in the new Indian nation in the form of a political and administrative system which has in its general character no REAL connection with the national spirit. It was an imposition from outside, the result of colonial rule. The bureaucracy, for example, was devised to serve that rule rather than self-rule. Out of this, bearing no harmony with the true pulse of the nation, laws and methods of governing were imposed which to this day hinder rather than further the free and forward-moving thrust the country needs to faithfully fulfil its noble destiny along the lines arising from its own individual web of destiny. One specific aspect of this residue is the increasing chasm between the bureaucracy and the public, as if the public were the enemy of the administration rather than the elements to be served. The explanation for this lamentable situation is simply the fact that indeed the ‘natives’ were the enemy of the Raj and the administration was arranged in such a way as to permit that native populace to be effectively ruled by suppression of its any aspiration and effort at upliftment. The situation in India today, with the almost complete lack of openness (at a time when even the Soviet Union has opened its society) and the nefarious secrecy which characterise the Indian system are the inevitable outcome of the residue the country inherited and which she refuses to shake off.
However, this situation in a very profound sense mirrors the condition of our entire civilisation – east and west. The new must arise amidst the old; but for the true new way, it must somehow come into being uncontaminated by the old. Throughout the world nations and individuals face the same dilemma. We are born into a particular structure or environment. We must evolve within that, bearing the limitations which our heritage may foist upon us. Yet in the midst of these very ‘fields’, and no other, new structures must nonetheless arise.
India is no exception; indeed, her task is perhaps more complex than that of any other nation. But in spite of this limitation she has played out for over a century the patterns of her higher destiny which the new cosmology describes so thoroughly, regardless of any existing limitation. Nonetheless, it is precisely these limitations, this ‘residue’ which is burdening the nation at this critical crossroads of her destiny.

We do not place in doubt that India’s higher destiny is being fulfilled despite the inadequacy of the system within which this superior pattern must draw its lines. We cannot doubt insofar as the facts prove the victorious existence of this higher pattern which, like it or not, has been the pattern the nation has been made to adhere to. However, the 8 makes its presence felt constantly by a certain ‘baggage’ which the country totes on its back. Thus that extraneous element acts as a corrosive agent. It contaminates everything. It is like a parasite draining the host tree of its most vital substance. And as the tree grows, so does the parasite grow. Until a threshold is reached. Then either the tree develops sufficient strength to throw off the parasite, or the latter succeeds in destroying the tree which permitted its growth in the first place.
By examining certain original components such as the health and the condition of the soil and other environmental factors, the emergence of a parasite can more or less be predicted. Thus, given the conditions prevailing at the time of the independence movement (for I consider that we must study the matter from approximately 1857, the year of the Sepoy Rebellion and not just the actual year of Independence), the growth of this ‘parasite’ was easily predicted. Its forecasting required no special occult powers or clairvoyant capacities.
India stands at a crossroads of her destiny. The parasite this nation/tree bears is flourishing and threatens to destroy its host altogether. Indeed, the stronger the host grows the more nourishment and vital sap is made available to the parasitic appendage. At some point a drastic measure must be taken, for when the critical threshold is reached, to continue feeding the host tree simply means giving more and more power to the parasite to destroy the host or the element that sustains it and gives it its life.1 This becomes a self-defeating exercise. In the day-to-day functioning of a nation, a development of this sort is perceived in a number of ways, but the common characteristic of them all is the constant presence of a sense of waste, of pouring resources into what appears to be a black hole in the national field of consciousness-being, a bottomless pit, as it were. Over-population, of course, is an easy tool for this insatiable and destructive drainage. But there are many more, over-population being simply the most obvious.
This is a mathematical occurrence. The development follows organic lines, albeit of an order which the ordinary intelligence cannot perceive or accept, because these laws involve the play of forces, of energies which constitute the ‘body’ of a nation – any nation. Physical, to be sure, but a ‘body’ also animated by a vital force and held together by a ‘purpose’ which is lodged deep within the nation’s innermost psychic essence. A leader can be considered outstanding to the extent to which he or she is able to reach and draw out the nectar of that ‘purpose’ from the deep recesses of the nation’s soul.
Considering this play of forces – a unique combination for each nation – the pattern of India’s higher destiny has evolved. And according to this pattern, and no other, the nation’s political life has taken shape, particularly in these 42 years of its independent life [1989]. But the structure within which this superior model has had to express itself has been inadequate.
Put more simply, there is an essence and a form to all things in this material universe. In a world of disharmony such as ours, ruled by the Ignorance and the Falsehood (and I purposefully use these terms capitalised to lay emphasis on their cosmic origin and hence the evolutionary limitations imposed upon a species which must grow according to a certain cosmic tempo and a largely predetermined pattern), a cleavage exists between the two. Essence is always pure and true, but in a material universe, that same essence must be provided with the proper FORMS to express itself uncontaminated, undistorted and, above all else, not subjected to any imposition from external quarters which bear scant relation to that unique essence of being. Indeed, the single most indicative factor which allows us to identify the consciousness that reigns on Earth as one of Ignorance and Falsehood is that to one who sees, to one who has the capacity to penetrate beneath outer layers and see the soul-essence, it is apparent that along its evolutionary way, in the course of the development of these ‘limbs’ or forms, externals have oppressed that essence and it therefore does not find any fitting vehicle to express itself according to the truth of its essential being.

Introduction to the essay 'The Seeds of Undermining'

An update is required in presenting this essay to readers of this blog. In 1986 Aeon Trust was formed to provide support to Aeon Centre of Cosmology. We had secured a small portion of land to begin building the Centre, where we continue our work to this day. In doing so I had to deal with every aspect of the Government, the Bureaucracy, as well as the police. My experience provoked this essay.
It is August of 2011 and what I wrote in 1989 is relevant and in fact prophetic when read in the context of what is transpiring throughout the world today. There is what I have called an Aquarian Wave sweeping across the entire world (see The Magical Carousel, Chapter 11, Aeon Books). This ‘wave’ is effecting almost every country in the world, each one responds in the way required for that particular country. We see in the Arab world how the Aquarian Wave has produced movements for democracy (the ‘Arab Spring’) because that is what those countries require. It is, in a sense, a neutral wave: the results of its influence are what each nation requires. Therefore, it is entirely in keeping with the times which demand TRUE FREEDOM. Nothing is imposed from OUTSIDE. The Wave stirs the people within as required in each case. There is no uniform imposition of one ideology or another. It is thus an influence that works from within by this unique process. It is true non-violence.
In America the Wave affects economics, because that is the ‘pulse’ of the American nation. In India, as we see being played out today in a stunning fashion, the Wave produces the reaction, also FROM WITHIN, to fight the cancer that is corruption, as the essay below deals with. Yes indeed, the parasite has become the tree, as I wrote 22 years ago. The issue at hand everywhere is to force systems to be set in place – by the people – which can best serve the interests in each country of the people governments must serve.
To follow the movements of this new Power moving across the world, it is necessary to be able to perceive the ‘pulse’ of the nation, culture or civilisation involved; in so doing it is possible to understand why each country reacts to the Wave in a specific and unique way. I have stated that the pulse of America largely involves economics. Both India and America have a similar ‘pulse’ or ‘cosmic note’. But America is a new nation, while India has an ancient past that is still the primary influence even over its contemporary society and the birth of a new India in 1947. Thus, India of today must be analysed in conjunction with those ancient roots. Therefore, it will not react to the Wave in the same manner as America does; the effects go much deeper. Involved is also the number-power 3 for both, but in India’s case what is indicated is the Soul, both individual and collective.
Therefore corruption is the issue in India today, causing an unprecedented people’s movement across the land, because the soul’s opposite is the ego. Corruption reveals a perversion of the soul: an intense ego-centrism prevails and drives the human being to care only for himself in disregard to the rest of society. Thus, the nation’s strongest point is perverted to become its opposite and to weaken the nation.
This is what is changing throughout the world. In the Arab nations, surprisingly and perhaps for the first time in decades, the uprisings have nothing to do with religion. This is truly demonstrative of the Aquarian Age as I prophetically described in Chapter 11 of The Magical Carousel in March of 1970. Indeed, the Voice of the People is heard. And Vishnu’s Will stirs the hearts of the people directly.
I am also including an earlier Note pointing to the changes that had by then taken place at the time of publication – for example, the fall of the Soviet Union. This cosmology is indeed the new astrology for the new age. It is not based on prediction. It is rather a super-logic due to the effects of the descent of Supermind, as described in minute detail by Sri Aurobindo. It is an ability to ‘see’ in a new way, to see in understanding, to see in oneness and interconnectedness.
The key to everything that is happening is an integration of Being with Becoming, an integration that constitutes the heart and soul of the Truth-Conscious Supermind.

India's Seminar on Scientific Dating of Events Before 2000 BCE: Special Report

The Hindu Press International article entitled, 'India's Seminar on Scientific Dating of Events Before 2000 BCE: Special Report' is reproduced below because these findings are in tune with the new Indo-Centric Cosmology as found in the writings of Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet. Ms. Norelli-Bachelet helps put such discoveries in the context of the true knowledge of the Vedic Age. The findings in the article lend support to the fact that the Capricorn Hieroglyph superimposed on the map of Akhand Bharat is indeed pre-historic and was first seen by the Rishis in ages gone by. The new series to follow, India, the Vast, the True, the Right, will build on this understanding, whereby it can be seen as the means to integrate societies on the subcontinent. We are please to begin this new series on August 15th, 2011 -- the 139th birthday of Sri Aurobindo, and coincidentally the 64th anniversary of Indian independence.

India's Seminar on Scientific Dating of Events Before 2000 BCE:
Special Report

[as published in Hinduism Today magazine]

NEW DELHI, INDIA, August 5th, 2011 (HPI report - By Rajiv Malik, Chief Correspondent, India/South Asia):

"The anthropological research reports have established that DNA dating for Paleolithic continuity starts from 60,000 BC. The Genome studies during the Holocene have revealed that the genetic profile of humans settled in north, south, east and west of India is the same and has remained the same for the last more than 11,000 years. Therefore, contrary to the popular belief, the Dravidians as well as north Indians have common ancestors and both are originals of India." This interesting revelation was made by Dr. V.R. Rao, Professor of Anthropology, Delhi University while presenting his paper at the national seminar on"Scientific Dating Of Ancient Events Before 2000 BC"

The "Seminar on Scientific Dating of Events Before 2000 BCE" was held on 30th and 31st July, 2011 at the auditorium of Indian Institute of Mass Communication in New Delhi. The seminar was attended by about 400 people including Sanskrit scholars and astronomers, archaeologists and geologists, ecologists and anthropologists, oceanographers and space scientists, bureaucrats and academicians as well as other persons from the public and media, who took deep interest in the deliberations of this otherwise highly technical event organized by the Delhi chapter of I-SERVE [ Institute of Scientific Research on Vedas].

The two main objectives of the seminar were:

One, to highlight the fact that some new scientific inventions and tools can scientifically determine the authenticity and historicity of ancient events and as such any reliance on religious beliefs or linguistic guesswork is superflous. Such scientific dating is not only credible and convincing but is also likely to push back the antiquity of our civilisation by 4-5 millenia, giving all Indians a shared pride in our rich cultural heritage.

The second objective was to integrate the authenticated information contained in latest research reports of our eminent scientists, available with the Ministries of Science and Technology and of Earth Sciences, with the contents of our school and college books to enable the young minds to appreciate our true history, reconstructed purely on scientific basis.

Former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam delivered the inaugural address on 30th July. He endorsed the scientific methods of dating ancient events and emphasised that a mechanism needs to be built to disseminate the knowledge and information generated during the seminar with school and college children to generate a shared pride in our rich and ancient most heritage.

The highlight of the event was the release of the Seminar Memento, a wall clock depicting the sky view on 10th January, 5114 BC, date of birth of Lord Ram based on planetary configuration given in Valmiki Ramayan. The memento was released by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Presenting the theme of the national seminar, Ms Saroj Bala, Director, I-Serve, Delhi Chapter stated, "Till now we have been told that prior to 1500 BC, India was uncivilized and that the Aryans who came from Central Asia pushed the uncivilized inhabitants towards the south and were later known as Dravidians. These invaders were the ones who set up the first civilized society in North India. Multidisciplinary and purely scientific research has shown that this premise, which was based on linguistic guesswork, is not correct."

According to Ms Saroj Bala the key findings of the seminar have the potential of uniting all Indians and raising their self esteem by giving them shared pride in their ancient most rich cultural heritage. To enlighten them based on scientific evidences, that indigenous civilization have been developing and flourishing in India for last 10,000 years and that some of our ancestors moved out to civilise others.

A New Cosmology

In 1982, Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet wrote a synopsis of her cosmology and yogic research up to that point in time entitled, 'The New Cosmology'. The synopsis is reproduced below on PCU blog, so readers can consider how the CONCEPTUALISM of the Puranic Age has been brought forward into our times and updated by Ms. Norelli-Bachelet through the knowledge conveyed in her books, The New Way, Volumes 1&2 and The Gnostic Circle. The 3rd Volume of The New Way was written in 1983 after the realisation came of 'centering' and thereby 'filling the Void'. This realisation, though described and preserved in the Rig Veda, has been lost to India for thousands of years. Notwithstanding the apparent loss, the Veda are still the bedrock of the Hindu civilisation.

A NEW COSMOLOGY
Synopsis of the Present Research of Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet
MAY 1982

In 1981 I published my most important work, two volumes in one book entitled The New Way, a study in the rise and the establishment of a Gnostic society. It is the fruit of research of many years, a work that is still in progress, the result of which will form the third volume of The New Way, and ultimately the fourth.

For the creation of The New Way I took the cosmology and the synthesis of various philosophic, mystic, and yogic disciplines that I had evolved in an earlier book, The Gnostic Circle, as a basis for the formulation of a revolutionary new means of communication. The Gnostic Circle served as the alphabet, let us say, which I then used in The New Way as a fully evolved language. The purpose of this last book is to present a discussion of the foundations of a new world order, of which India is the centrepiece, – the inspirer and the realiser. On the basis of this newly evolved cosmology, a micro-cosmos is constructed in the book, in which India stands as the central Sun. She is a luminary, an emitter of a new light. Or, to use the ancient Greek terminology, India serves as the ‘navel of the world’. Once this confined experiment is mature, the central Sun then sends off sparks of itself until a new world order, having first taken birth in India, is extended to encompass the whole Earth.

The method I have employed to convey this experience is one often used in antiquity, though it has not been utilised in our times to my knowledge. I have taken the ancient concept of ‘the city’ and used it somewhat in the way philosophers such as Plato have done, or St. John in his Revelation. Other examples of similar usage can be found in the Puranas regarding Bharat herself, her geographical divisions, etc, – all of which were means for conveying the cosmogony that epitomised harmony, order and centrality. Thus in The New Way I literally ‘construct’ the City; and this is a cosmos with India standing at the centre of the galaxy.

The cohesive element in the structure of this City is Time. In this respect The New Way is indeed revolutionary because Time is rendered concrete in the text and serves as the City’s structural framework. Moreover, through this web of Time that is detailed in the book as the basic structural support of the City, India is connected to the entire Earth and makes it one cohesive whole, because time, being a universal element, is the active and dynamic substance in this process. On the basis of a new method for working with Time, it is possible to render the experience of global oneness and unity very real and actual. Time is shown in the book to be the element of cohesion in the collective awareness and perception. As such this City, whose structural component is Time itself, becomes, as it were, a new consciousness. It is this new ‘City-Consciousness’, its rise, its establishment, that is the essence of The New Way and that forms the basis for a more enlightened world order.

My system evolves along lines similar to those laid down by Pythagoras and the earlier Pythagoreans. The Power of Number is the kernel of my cosmology, – as it is in the Pythagorean system. However, while for Pythagoras it was largely a ‘geometry of number’ (or an arithmogeometry of points in space forming gnomons within the Square, or else the triangular Tegtraktys), progressing from 1 to 10 in the scale of number, my work has produced what I call ‘the Geometry of Time’. And this evolves on the basis of the scale, 0 to 9. In addition, this scale has planetary orbital values. It is the incorporation of the Zero that is fundamental in this new cosmology. The entire system is explained in my book The Gnostic Circle.

Basing my system on a scale that incorporates in its most fundamental part the Zero, it can be readily understood why India has come to be so central a piece in this new cosmo-terrestrial order of our age. However, this is clear only when the full nature of the Zero is understood. With this comprehension the true magnitude of the significance of its discovery by the early Indians is brought home. It was a discovery that may have been appreciated fully by mathematicians, but which, in my view, has not received enough attention from philosophers, metaphysicians, and cosmologists. The nature of the Zero and its relevance to Indian spirituality, science and culture are an essential part of my work.

By using concrete elements very much allied in our thinking with matter and material creation (as separate from or different from spirituality), The New Way brings the vision of unity and oneness far more firmly into our real world, on this Earth, at this point in evolution. Indeed, a fundamental aspect of the work is the ultimate fusion of the two poles – spirit and matter – until finally there is no distinction between the two. It is this consciousness of unity that replaces the old order and permits a new society to evolve.

The Contents of Volumes 1 & 2 of The New Way, published in August of 1981, may be examined so that a clearer idea may emerge of the development of this unusual process in the text. I wish therefore to draw attention to the book’s structure, because this will then lead us to an understanding of my present topic of research, which is largely a continuation of what has been accomplished in Volumes 1 & 2.

It may be observed that in the Table of Contents (and a perusal of the book itself) that in the first volume I have given broad outlines, starting from rather a transcendent vision of the whole, based on an analysis of present-day conditions, both positive and negative. I describe our world as it is seen in the ordinary vision, with its pain as well as its felicitous achievements. But the reason for this is only to then reveal that in the midst of this distress the new order is already rising, that it is not a utopia to be reached tomorrow; rather it is a new world already born though yet in an infant stage. In The New Way I locate this ‘child’ in India, on the basis of the new cosmology; and thus begins the ‘constructing process’ of the City-Consciousness. A fundamental element in this cosmology, as stated, is the Zero, which I have connected to OM. This sacred syllable, standing at the heart of all Indian thought, is also the fundamental core of the City-Consciousness. As India in terms of nations is the central sun of the Earth’s terreo-cosmology, so Om is revealed to be the light and central fire of the City.

Again responding to the call to make the experience one of our world, in matter, the Pranava also takes on a concrete form in The New Way. It becomes the ‘Temple’ at the heart of the City. And this is the theme of the second volume, the entirety of which is dedicated to the ‘construction’ of the soul and centre of the City-Consciousness, which in this work is given the form of a Temple.

Thus, The New Way evolves into a rather unique treatise on sacred architecture. But here we begin touching remote history, when sacred architecture was the result of a superior knowledge and corresponded to laws ignored by us today. These ‘Laws of Correspondence and Concordance’ I have detailed at length in The New Way, but they are brought dramatically into our own times. Thus The New Way brings forth an extremely new and sophisticated concept of sacred architecture in India, of our times, not at all belonging to ancient history. All of this serves to concretize India as the centre of a new tomorrow.

The precise formulas which serve to render ‘the Temple’ a unique piece of sacred architecture are given with extreme detail in the second volume of The New Way, revealing what I have called ‘the geometry of Time’. This is the means by which time is woven into space, into a particular measurement of space, which, because of this unique relation with Time, comes to be considered ‘the Golden Rod’ of Western tradition, or the Divine Maya of Vedic times, – using ‘maya’ in its ancient Vedic sense of ‘measure’. Thus we have revealed before us the Divine Measure in the Temple. With this Measure cosmic cycles come alive in the structure by means of the Laws of Correspondence. Consequently The New Way is a valuable contribution to the new scientific discipline called Archaeoastronomy. This discipline seeks to understand the astronomic content of certain extant pieces of sacred architecture dating from ancient times and found in various parts of the world. On the basis of a thorough analysis of this present-day ‘Temple’ of India, the method by which astronomical import is contained in temple or pyramidal architecture is fully explained, as is also its purpose. This study, however, focuses on India’s contribution to the field today, a model of which is given in the book through numerous diagrams and architectural plans.

Yet India’s past is not ignored in The New Way. A look at the contents of the second volume will reveal that while I ‘construct’ the Temple-Soul-Sun of the City, I use this very process as a means to trace the nations’ great heritage through the ages, revealing her unique fitness to occupy the Centre today. Starting from present times I look back (always while ‘constructing’ in the present) into India’s deep past, moving through the Puranic period and the Upanishadic, until finally the Source is reached in Vedic and pre-Vedic times. All along a connection is firmly maintained with the present. Thus the reader is never lost in an abstract discussion which he can only with great difficulty relate to his present life and the world in which he lives. Even while reaching to the most ancient source, The New Way maintains a firm hold on the present. India’s ancient heritage is thus re-vitalised in an exciting and invigorating manner. A sound and realistic new order is built, but one that rests firmly on ancient principles.

The thought of Sri Aurobindo is woven throughout the text (as it is in all my works). He stands as the supreme inspirer. But his philosophy in my work does not serve to render the movement of consciousness in any way static or removed from earthly life and evolution. It is, if I may say, applied philosophy. Therefore the aspect of his work that most harmonises with mine is his concentration on a life divine for the Earth, and his vision of human unity and a new world order.

Brief description of planned future work

The first volume of The New Way is an overall vision, similar to a transcendent survey. The second volume is the new from a cosmic dimension, drawing that transcendent vision into the cosmos or material creation by means of a detailed cosmological structure, a ‘new model of the universe’.

In the third volume, I propose to draw this vision even more closely into life on this planet. Indeed, the third volume is the vision drawn into the individual dimension. I propose to detail the citizens’ participation in the new society, and the means by which a new collective consciousness is formed of individual elements. While the scope is global, India will continue to occupy the central, inspiring position. For example, topics such as the ancient caste system will be discussed at length and in great detail. I propose to show its unifying nature while at the same time outlining the causes for its decline and degeneration into a source of antagonism and discord, which is the opposite of its original intent. By utilising certain diagrams taken from The New Way cosmogony, I propose to show the cosmic foundation of the caste system, which is thoroughly non-sectarian and in its essential nature unrelated to religions; but, above all, to bring this division of society into modern times and show the method by which India can now evolve a superior structure based on an enhanced vision of our solar system as reflective of a new planetary society.

In the third volume I propose to make the nature of the new society even more clearly cosmic and planetary than in Volumes 1 & 2. The individual in such a society is revealed as a planet orbiting a central Sun, and the whole is the experience of a divine and superb Harmony. I propose to emphasise the need for such a society of individuals, if at all the Earth is to support the continued evolution of the human race to a superior poise and emerge from the present impasse, – collective and individual.

Culture will be a prominent aspect of the new society, as treated in the third volume of The New Way. It will take its place in the ‘constructing process’ of the City as the vital breath running through the arteries of the City-Consciousness. This will be shown to serve as a life-giving element in the society, as a constant source of re-newal of energy, always throwing up new forms of itself in all the myriad branches of culture, while being ever based on truth and knowledge. Likewise, economics will come into focus, as will many other aspects of life in the community; all these will be shown to find their true place and poise in the planetary Society and City.

By completion of the third, the set of three volumes will express the three fundamental principles of reality – transcendent, cosmic, and individual, or God, Nature, and Man – in the form of a City.

I envision thereafter a fourth volume, which will centre largely on the physical structure than can house a new society and which will be reflective of that society’s consciousness of unity. This completed work I hope will offer a sound body of knowledge serving as an inspiration and a practical guide for the establishment of a new world order and a consciousness of international unity. A new India, with its ancient heritage, would be the first model-experiment in this work, which then must extend to the four corners of the Earth.

The Partition of India, its cause, its purpose - Postscript

I have been reading the reprint of Dilip Kumar Roy’s Kumbha, India’s Ageless Festival, (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, 2009). It has inspired me to add a few words to my series, The Partition of India, my most explicit presentation of the evils of Partition. Never before has Partition been linked to the Cosmic Harmony, but each time a breakthrough occurs in the explanation of a ‘knot’ such as Partition in the destiny of India, the situation actually becomes more dangerous. Forces of disunity can survive and continue their nefarious work only until exposure takes place. This is the same role they play in one’s individual sadhana. When through yoga one succeeds in this exposure, the light penetrates that tight darkness comprised of knotted energies which are then released, just as the Veda describes of the ‘cows/rays/energy’ entrapped in the cave of the Panis; that increase of energy is converted to fuel as it were, in this case for the purpose of integration and unification. The entire purpose of the Initiate’s journey as mapped out in the ecliptic is to secure the release of those precious ‘cow/rays’ of the Sun so that the Capricorn victory can be attained.
A similar release occurs with a text such as Partition. One would expect such a formidable increase to bring in its stead immediate results and a rise in the level of the individual and collective consciousness. In the Old Yogas if by chance such a breakthrough had been made, the otherworldly goal of the quest would have immediately dispersed those energies by a process of intentional undermining – a process that took hundreds of years to become consolidated in the form we know today. Those energies would then serve to fortify the direction, the pathway to a Beyond. This has been occurring in an increasing manner for the past 2000 years. However, today a crossroads of destiny has been reached for India and for the world.
If the Earth’s destiny was indeed to be merely a springboard to a Beyond, a place to work out karmic debts or to expiate one’s sins as all orthodox religions sustain, then a dispersion of energies is positive. But what if the Earth is not destined to be this springboard? What then? Such being the case, would it not be understandable that we stand on the brink of destruction? Destiny cannot be fooled; it is either fulfilled or collapse occurs. Finally, the choice is ours.
The ancient Veda offers exact details of the destiny of the Earth, central to which is India. Above all, the Veda provide the cosmic formula not only to know that destiny but also how it is to be facilitated, fulfilled. To that end knowledge of the cosmic harmony and its laws are indispensable because it is only through that Harmony that the Earth can know fulfilment. This is the meaning of Oneness. When the integral path is traversed, as described in the ecliptic pathway of the Sun, there is only one destiny, not many. Indeed, when the Formula is cemented in Earth time through a series of births, the realisation of the One eliminates all other possibilities which are, in themselves, a signal of an unhealthy dispersal of energies.
The key is given in the zodiacal script and its ecliptic measure; in the Veda this is described as ‘the higher seat of our self-accomplishing’ or the pathway where ‘the many-horned herds of Light go travelling’ – the path of 12 divided into 4; that is, resting on the four Cardinal Poles of the equinoxes and solstices. This was further elaborated in the Brihad Samhita of Varahamihira in the early part of the last millennium. In that early text there is no mention of any ‘correction’ required due to a shifting of the constellations (as Al Biruni suggested in his travel book India). Varahamihira gives two keys to connect us to the cosmic harmony – the March Equinox, Mahavishuva (Aries/Agni in the zodiac, leader of the hosts), and the December Solstice/shortest day (the Capricorn/Makar ayana) nine months after Mahavishuva. All the rest, the so-called ‘Vedic’ astrology that is followed today, inspired by elements ignorant of the Vedic cosmic truth, is simply an obfuscation of that Truth.
As pointed out in Part Seven, every time the Sankranti is celebrated on 15 January that falsehood is further strengthened; at this point its hold seems unbreakable. Since the cosmic connection has been made clear in Partition, we cannot continue to follow meekly the lead of the Hostiles. The situation has deteriorated to such a degree that university students are offered courses in ‘Vedic’ Astrology though there is not an iota of support in the Veda for the system being taught and passed off as Vedic. Thus, matters truly vedic have been left to scientists and academics to determine. But since when has the scientist or the academic acquired a higher consciousness that permits a direct insight into these profound matters on which the destiny of not only India but the entire Earth hinges?
This could all change in a day. But a blanket of tamas has covered this civilisation so thoroughly that even so simple a matter as determining Mahavishuva and Makar Sankranti, the two truly VEDIC pillars of the cosmic harmony, is just not grasped. Confusion reigns, and in the words of the poet,

‘…The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity’

One could provide all the Vedic proof in existence and still no one takes the lead to reverse this situation in which the destiny of our planet is involved. But perhaps this is the problem. Perhaps belief just ‘will not be until the work is done’, in Sri Aurobindo’s words. But what does ‘done’ mean? To put it bluntly, the Earth is an intrinsic part of the solar system (just how ‘intrinsic’ may shortly come to be known, the hard way). This System is a single unit, a single closely knit family. Each member of this family plays a role in creating the harmony of the spheres. The Earth, above all the other planets, occupies a special place in the System. Only on this planet can the Soul that she is bring forth evolving instruments with the ability to manifest an integral truth described by that very Harmony.
Integrality, this is the key. The fourfold Vedic harmony reveals that truth of our System which is preserved in the cosmic script of the ecliptic, where the ‘shining herds of light go travelling’. It is a structure of four – the circle of 12 divided into 4; each quarter covers one of the major planes of existence: physical, vital, mental and supramental. This is the destiny of our species – to organically produce that integral balance here on Earth. That is the reason for an evolving species such as ours. Therefore, when breakthroughs in formulation are made such as Partition with its subsequent release of energy, forces precipitate to usurp or divert those newly-released energies (the Vande Mataram issue suddenly raised again?), thereby assuring that integration will not happen because unity demands a fuller energy base.
Fortification of this pattern has been taking place in an accelerated fashion for the past two centuries. A clear example is given by Sri Aurobindo himself when the Third Power descended into the evolutionary process to join the other members of the Solar Line. This was in early 1938. In that very year, on the 24th November anniversary of his Siddhi Day, Sri Aurobindo had an accident in his room; he broke his thigh bone and was confined to his bed for a number of months. He spoke of the accident as having occurred because he was concentrated on protecting the Mother and disregarded himself (it was Darshan Day and visitors would flood the Ashram, bringing all sorts of disruptive energies into the atmosphere that required his special attention). But if this had been the full story another question is raised: What happened then to the event disciples eagerly anticipated for 1938, as Ashram sources have chronicled? Sri Aurobindo and the Mother knew that something significant would happen that year. However, history only records a broken thigh bone.
The explanation for this ‘failed’ event is given above: the Third Power of the triad was indeed anticipated to complete the Supramental Formula of 9/6/3; but since the full formulation of the process – that is, conscious participation – had not occurred, that birth did indeed bring the desired completion of the triad; however, without conscious integration to make the supramental formula complete, entry into Earth time merely left a gap through which hostile forces could enter to usurp the energies released. A great shift in the cosmic wheel of destiny had indeed occurred, but that was just the first step toward completion of the triadic process, a dangerous first step.
One example of usurpation and infiltration was the rise of Nazism which had become one of the most potent attempts to establish darkness instead of light, the subject of many myths worldwide; indeed, an indication of the usurpation was the adoption of certain key Vedic symbols, thereby revealing a determination to contaminate by usurpation the real Descent and thereby to dominate the world before the full consolidation had taken place; in a word, to alter and distort the Earth’s destiny and by consequence the role of India on the world stage. In this regard, Nazism provides a perfect example of how distortion is worse than complete ignorance. This is one indication of the danger entry of the Third into Earth time had brought. The ‘gap’ was finally closed when the Third Power became fully conscious of the process and took her place in the scheme but only in 1971 [see The Tenth Day of Victory, PNB, Aeon Books]. Therefore, 1971 marks one of the most important turning points in the history of the Supramental Descent, and the years between 1938 and 1971 were perhaps the most dangerous for the Earth. In point of fact, a legacy from that period is the unparalleled destructive power housed in arsenals across the world.

India is caught in a bind. Witness the extraordinary potential of the Kumbha Mela, a festival of a collective fervour unparalleled anywhere on Earth. Dilip Kumar Roy in the Introduction to his book notes that the year 1954, when he and his disciple Indira Devi attended, was considered especially auspicious. He writes, ‘According to the Indian Calendar the combination of the signs of the Zodiac happened this year to be remarkably auspicious. It is said that such a combination can only recur one hundred and eight years from now. This may have accounted for the record crowd that gathered at Prayag…in the [sic] January and February of this year.’
To begin, the above reveals just how central a role cosmic harmonies play in the life of Hindus even into the present, though now bereft of the higher knowledge that had formerly sustained the tradition. To be precise, we know that the Calendar Reform Committee held in 1953 cemented the current Nirayana-based ‘Hindu Calendar’ for all times to come. Thus, to one who sees, to a person knowledgeable of the Cosmic Truth and its harmonies, to a true initiate of the Vedic sacrifice on the backdrop of the Year, the ‘auspicious dates’ Roy presents in his book for the faithful to take dips in the sacred river as determined by the pundits, are all based on the wrong circle for this purpose. The list begins of course with the Makar Sankranti on 15 January, for indeed the Kumbha Mela should begin in Capricorn, the sign of Ganga’s geo-cosmological measure (see Part Six) but correctly measured. This ‘wrong circle’ is the sphere of the constellations rather than the ecliptic, not that ‘one circle’ extolled in the Veda which ‘does not shake’ because it is perfectly balanced on the four Cardinal Poles, the pillars of our Earth year. It is then divided into 12 parts, each of which is given a name and hieroglyph, thereby preserving the wisdom of the Veda for future generations when that same Knowledge would again descend to replace the Cosmic Ignorance prevalent today. For many centuries the devotional energies of millions of Hindus have been usurped to consolidate disunity, disharmony, disintegration. The Kumbha Mela has therefore been reduced to one more grand manner to fortify the un-Vedic goal of otherworldliness: pilgrims bathe in the sacred waters to expiate their sins, to remove bad karmas and to seek moksha, which centrally means never more to be reborn on Earth.
The Earth is rejected in the very land that embodies her soul. Ganga is, in a sense, reversed to flow against herself, against the destiny her mighty waters carry to fulfilment, from her source at 12º Capricorn to her mouths at 0º. Cosmic harmonies reveal the truth that IS; for those ‘mouths’ are now in the possession of another.
Time and again the Earth is rejected by this refusal to respect her Dharma as explained by her position in the solar system and which reveals the cosmic note she adds to the symphony of the spheres. No other nation and civilisation on Earth, from ancient times to the present, offers such a clarity of destiny. This clarity is precisely a result of the initiatory pathway or journey (along the ecliptic) that the Aryan Warrior completes successfully, to enjoy victory in the tenth month, Capricorn/Makar. But this Vedic Correspondence is lost when entry into that sign/month is ignored and replaced by a non-Vedic ‘correction process’ as we find in today’s celebration of Makar Sankranti. More importantly, when the cosmic connection is purported to be maintained but is, in effect, distorted and not eliminated entirely, the situation is worse than it would be with a total disconnect.
On the other hand, just imagine what would happen if India would recognise the Vedic Soul of her civilisation and if the Kumbha Mela would be held in exact accord with that Cosmic Truth (as described in Part 6), with Ganga ‘measured’ in the heavens and transposed onto the Earth through India? That is the meaning of the ‘descent of Ganga’ as told and retold via the mythic tradition. The cosmic harmonies as revealed in this 9th Manifestation of Vishnu leave nothing to chance and to the speculation of pundits and their misinterpretations. Sri Aurobindo understood the problem well. He wrote,

‘…It is because we do not understand the Vedas that three-fourths of the Upanishads are a sealed book to us. Even of the little we think we can understand, much has been insecurely grasped and superficially comprehended.... For want of this key profound scholars have fumbled and for want of this guidance great thinkers gone astray…’

‘Religious movements and revolutions have come and gone or left their mark but after all and through all the Veda remains to us our Rock of the Ages, our eternal foundation.... The Upanishads, mighty as they are, only aspire to bring out, arrange philosophically in the language of later thinking and crown with the supreme name of Brahman the eternal knowledge enshrined in the Vedas. Yet for some two thousand years at least no Indian has really understood the Vedas.’ Sri Aurobindo, India’s Rebirth (emphasis added).

Clearly there is a problem.

How would the Hostiles contend with the unparalleled consolidated energies of ten million Hindus gathered at the sacred confluence not only for their personal salvation but knowingly there to save the Earth and her embodied soul that is India? How would the falsehood of Partition contend with an influx of unified energies from a Kumbha Mela accurately joined to the heavenly Harmony? Who could withstand the power of the celestial Ganga drawn down to meet her Earthly counterpart through precise measurements of Time and Destiny as encapsulated in the Vedic Cosmic Truth of old and eternally valid, the true sanatana dharma? What paltry divisive powers could withstand the force of unity that such a harmonisation would bring?
This is the way for India to conquer – by just being true to her Dharma as written in the cosmic harmonies. This is the definition of super power for her, a unique destiny unlike any other on Earth.
Lamentably, if we are to go by conditions on the subcontinent today, we must admit that Sri Aurobindo’s warning of a ‘fissured unity’ is an accurate description of the prevailing state of affairs. It would seem that diversity has been exalted above all else without a unifying canvas on which those expressions of language and ideology, caste and class can be brought together under a single umbrella, each occupying its rightful place within the whole. The effort since Independence has been to make minorities of all sorts ‘feel comfortable’ in the new India. But this has been at the cost of a weakened cultural fabric that had always provided an indestructible sense of unity from time immemorial. Without a unifying fabric allowed to play its destined role as it has always done, uncontaminated by a biased interpretation of secularism, how can a society as diverse as the Indian present anything but a fissured unity?
And the fissures, the fault lines grow stronger and wider with each passing day. This is inevitable because vested interests of all shapes and sizes take full advantage of the weak points. China is an example. Appeasement seems to have influenced policy toward China since the 1950s – Tibet is an example. That friendly policy did nothing to prevent invasion of India by the neighbouring colossus in 1962. The latest example of the failure of such an approach is a recent warning put out on the question of the Dalai Lama’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, ‘Remember 1962!’
Alas, India can only help herself by restoring self-confidence in both her majority and minority populations which a unifying canvas had provided to the subcontinent throughout history. Today that canvas is ‘fissured’. Therefore, how can it support the unfolding of a destiny that is meant to be the cosmic sustenance of the whole Earth? However, it is as if the Rishis in their immense wisdom understood what would befall the civilisation millennia down the line. They therefore left explicit instructions on how to both unify energies and to recognise the falsehood introduced that would result in a fissure of that unity, just as Aurobindavatar stated at Independence. The hymn that preserves this wisdom is simple. Almost simplistic it would seem; yet that simplicity holds the answer and it can be implemented immediately. But, will India take heed?

Twelve spokes, one wheel, navels three.
Who can comprehend this?
On it are placed together
Three hundred and sixty like pegs.
They shake not in the least.
(Rig Veda 1.154.48)

One is the wheel; the bands are twelve;
three are the hubs – who can understand it?
Three hundred spokes and sixty in addition
have been hammered therein and firmly riveted…
(Atharva Veda X, 8)

The simple clue is the Rishis’ emphasis on ‘one wheel’. And further, that its 360 ‘spokes’ are firmly riveted…They shake not in the least. These lines confirm that the Nirayana calendar for Hindus is a great misinterpretation and un-Vedic to the core because it is not a measure in that ’one wheel’ that ‘shakes not’. Rather the exhortation of these post-Vedic pundits is that there must be a constantly shifting (shaking) ayanamsha because the constellations themselves are constantly shifting, so they claim, and with Mahavishuva and Makar Sankranti ‘shifting’ as well. They alone in their ‘wisdom’ are in a position to make the necessary ‘correction’. Hence their vested interests are protected because they have knowledge which laypersons ignore. But with the descent of the Supramental Avatar and his Line, connection to the Vedic Way is restored. Balance on the four Cardinal Poles is formulated scientifically; no latter-day pundit is required to ‘correct’ anything. Mahavishuva and Makar Sankranti timings are firm and unshakable, year in and year out. This is how the Dharma is maintained eternally, for as long as our solar system lives.

The Partition of India, its cause, its purpose - Conclusion

‘The above comes from below, and the below from above

– the work of the miracle of the One.’
Hermes, Emerald Tablet

Certainly all is not gloom and doom however.
Renewal, re-establishment become possible only at certain precise moments, those times when a maturing takes place, a ripening of time and circumstance, as it were. This is because a contingency plan was devised long ago that would provide an anchor for the fledgling nation in troubled times when the Ignorance would seem to reign supreme. More precisely, it was not exactly an anchor but rather an axis. This Axis is like no other we have record of because its ‘material’ component is Time.
Before describing the nature of this magical Axis, I must explain certain features of the new cosmology that ought to bring joy to the hearts of all those who take the trouble to read these pages. Joy arises in our hearts from realising that our main objective in life is simply a question of removing veils, one after another. Truth is as eternal as it is infinite; indeed, these divine qualities are expressed in our material universe as time and space. Therefore, they are everywhere part of us, our world. To deny their validity is to deny life itself, creation itself. The Eternal and the Infinite are right there before our eyes – if we but make the small effort to remove the veils. Then veils do fall away almost on their own. I am reminded of a wonderful Hindu temple in the hills of central Sri Lanka, Katharagama. The icon is Kartikeya in the form of Guha, the hidden One. He is nestled in a cave, as one would expect of Guha – he who resides in the ‘cave of one’s heart’. The special ritual to this Godhead at a specific time of the year consists of removing veils that cover the deity, many, one after another during the full period of the ritual. Finally the last uncovers the One.
This sacred temple ritual encapsulates the reason why we take birth, and at the same time it discloses the special property of this third planet from the Sun: to discover that One, to uncover the point we harbour deep in the cave of the soul: Guha, the centre of the Centre itself. This is the supreme secret of his unveiling.
The whole of creation is a display of the magic of the One. There is the Transcendent Divine, the Cosmic, and the Individual. But the soul each individual carries within – indeed our vahana – contains that One. We are never without it, never alone, we need only look deeply within and in the process remove one by one those coverings. For the One embodies purpose, the reason for birth; the reason for life itself; the reason for a universal manifestation at all. Always it is the same hidden ‘secret’. And all our struggles and successes are impelled from within by this sacred One. In India he is known by many names – Guha, Murugan, Shanmugan, Kartikeya, Shiva’s son Skanda, and above all Agni of the Vedic Fire, progenitor of them all.
The new India inscribes this secret for all times because her independence came through the ‘axis’ composed of a time formula in four stages, the trinity plus one. The last, the fourth is that Godhead/principle.
It is evident that what I am presenting in this brief study is, quite literally, as old as the hills, the favourite abode of the One. However, though Bharat has nurtured the Formula across the ages through myths of the Vedic and Puranic periods, and finally preserved in each Hindu temple regardless of how elaborate or how modest, the very special quality of this Age of the Supermind lies in the fact that we have reached the culmination of a long collective journey, just as it was described for the Initiate in the Rig Veda. The final stage of that journey, Vishnu’s highest ‘stride’, is precisely our present Aquarian Age which astrological tradition knows as the sign of the Friend, Mitra, just as the Veda indicate. The hymns also sing praises of the quality of Bliss that this highest passage brings. The reason for this ananda is that while the former strides were consecutive, culmination in this Age of Mitra brings what was formerly a linear progression into the wholeness, the integrality, the oneness of the circle. And its centremost Centre holds the divine Purpose, Guha in the cave of the heart. Once uncovered he can no longer be suppressed, ignored. He is the Immanent One, the Transcendent who takes birth in the human heart and at the centre of every created thing. Such is the magic of the soul.
Everything I have described in these pages has been known in India almost forever. For example, the core revelation of the gunaic harmony superimposed on the Indian landmass is not an entirely new discovery. Several years ago I came across a treatise on the Hindu Temple by the remarkable scholar Stella Kramrisch. She has brought together an amazing collection of data on sacred architecture from many sources. In Part VII, Volume 1 (The Hindu Temple, Motilal Banarsidas Publishers), we find the application of the gunas to sections of Indian geography somewhat similar to the Capricorn symbol-map I have presented. There are certain styles of temples which were considered appropriate to each of the gunaic divisions of the landmass: broadly, Nagara, Dravida, and Vesara. The ancient treatises explaining these designations and allocations are extremely complex. Obviously, they cannot be discussed in this short space. What I do wish to emphasise is that while there was an understanding of the landmass having a certain relation to the Gunas, it is significant that this understanding was preserved in temple knowledge. I have always contended that the entire store of Vedic Wisdom was passed over to the temple as a means of preservation when the dark age had set in. Page after page of Kramrisch’s study proves the point. The only complaint I have is that we have a fine collection of data, but no thread weaving through the texts to form a cohesive whole, an integrated body of higher knowledge that can be applied today, or at any time. This brings me to the notable difference between our age and the centuries during which the acts of preservation were undertaken. It would seem as if cramming sessions were in vogue with the purpose of preserving for a future age a vast, complex and highly sophisticated body of Knowledge, in attendance of Vishnu’s last ‘stride’ to make a greater sense of it all.

The division of the landmass in earlier times was horizontal. Moreover, there was no application of any formula on this basis, as, for example, the manner in which contemporary history can confirm the relationship between the land and the historic developments that occurred in each segment to provide a key to the eternal principles these gunas embody. Indeed the crux of the issue is a cosmology that is applicable. This can only come about when India adds the special ingredient that can cement this applicability for now and all times to come. We shall see just how this is done via the supramental Formula which Aurobindavatar himself has revealed. It is written in the heart of his own symbol, known as the Lotus of the Avatar.

The petals of the Lotus are 9 and 6 in number; then, after a gap there are leaves 3 in number. These 9, 6, 3 in a vertical descent come to rest on horizontal waves numbering 7 – a combination of 5 and 2, the full number-powers of the 9th and 10th Avatars of Vishnu’s Line. This, in brief, is the Formula: 9/6/3 which is compacted into the Zero and which, in turn, gives forth the One. Thus, 9/6/3–0/1 is its complete form. Out of the 3 comes the One from the compressed Zero. The significant point to note is the direction the above symbol indicates: vertical through the numbers 9, 6, 3, then shifting to horizontal. The 3 leaves are the ‘bridge’ to the horizontal.
This directional positioning is also described as involution (descending/vertical) and evolution (horizontal); or else contraction and expansion – depending on the application. The theoretical physicist David Bohm uses the terms implicate and explicate for his model, possibly inspired by Sri Aurobindo’s work.
The Earth could not house a play in time of this Formula before certain key elements had taken shape in the evolutionary process. These elements made the shift possible from linear to spherical, without which there cannot be applicability. We may once again use geography to illustrate the shift. I stated that the gunaic formulation in Hindu temple architecture confirmed a linear sectioning of the gunas/temple-styles horizontally up through the Mother’s Body. Today’s application is different based on the singular revelation of the Capricorn hieroglyph over Bharat which, as discussed, does ‘contain’ the triad, Rajas, Sattva, Tamas. But they move across the Body in an eastward progression along longitude coordinates. Succinctly, this is the distinction to be made. It reveals the enormous difference between now and then. Longitude is the key. Without this addition to divide the planet in bands of 30º, there would have been no possibility of applying the Formula to current affairs in time according to our universal calendar. Simplistic as it may seem, this discovery created the environment required for the Supramental Manifestation to take place after which details of the Formula could be revealed.
The formulation of longitude bands across the globe began to take shape in the 17th century. The art of horology was part and parcel of the discovery because in order to carry out the process precision instruments were required for measuring time. The result was the longitudinal bands as we know them today covering the 3600 of the Earth, upon which we have placed the 360º of the ecliptic with the twelve zodiacal signs of 300 each to arrive at the precious discovery that India is Capricorn (Part Five).
Though Vedic civilisation has always been obsessed with cosmology and time, scientific discoveries of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries have made the formulation of the new applicable cosmology possible. For that we do not need super telescopes to study the cosmos; we need only plunge deeply within to uncover Guha, the One at the heart of every created thing, large or small. Further, the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s were compressed by the time-tested Vedic laws of correspondence and equivalence into the last three decades of the 20th Century. And it was precisely during that period that the Supermind manifested, making use of – nay, controlling – the totality of circumscribing conditions for the purpose; and in so doing Supermind revealed its most significant quality – the ability to harmonise what had hitherto appeared irreconcilable in the linear perception: the One and the Many, Unity and Diversity, Being and Becoming. This is what it means to shift from linear to spherical, upon which basis cosmology can move into its higher expression of application. There is no better method to demonstrate this radical change than the analysis of the ‘contingency plan’ Supermind arranged for the new India, to serve as a stabilising Axis around which the civilisation could take its place as the centre of the Earth for this 9th Manifestation. The Formula had to be cemented in India first for it to be the holding power of the entire planet. And this did indeed come to pass.

What I propose to discuss will seem to project the Congress Party and the Nehru-Gandhi family as somehow saviours of the nation. The truth of the matter is that there was no other political vehicle then that could serve the purpose of axis-binding. To be noted, however, is that the Formula contains four numbers/stages/individuals. It does not extend beyond the fourth. But at that level the vertical, descending direction shifts to horizontal. Regarding the Congress and the designated instruments for the four stages, the last was Rajiv Gandhi. History confirms the exactitude of the Supramental Formula in that his period was the last of single-party rule. The (horizontal) era of coalition politics had begun and is still with us today. The ancient symbol of the Sun explains the situation graphically: 9/6/3 are numerical properties compacted into the central Point (the Zero), from where a reversal takes place and the direction shifts from vertical to horizontal, – that is, to the periphery. Thereupon, as multiple stars in the firmament, we find the multiplicity of political parties. For a time during the transitional phase confusion may prevail, but it will eventually subside when a new balance replaces the old. It goes without stating that the new will have to be based on a true new order, proper to India as centre.
Thus 9/6/3-0/1 is the Formula. We note that with meticulous precision it has been cemented in India’s contemporary history as a form of Time-Axis with binding power via the birthdates of 1) Motilal Nehru (6.5.1861=9); Jawaharlal Nehru (14.11.1889=6); Indira Nehru Gandhi (19.11.1917=3). Significant is the fact that Indira had two sons while up to that point the family line consisted of a single off-spring. Yet Indira’s sons are proof of the remarkable previsionary nature of the Supramental Shakti since both sons bore the same number-power (Rajiv 20.8.1944=1, and Sanjay 14.12.1946=1). We note that both Sanjay and Rajiv were born with the required 1 number-power. There is no better demonstration of the spherical controlling capacity of the Supramental Shakti than this evidence of a ‘contingency plan’ in the event of the demise of either one, as indeed did come to pass.
But this is only part of the Formula. The most important element is provided by what must necessarily be termed ‘powers of the Sun’. This is because only the year is used to determine the operating number-power of each of the four members, whereas regarding the Nehru-Gandhi-Congress ‘axis’ the full birthdates were required: day, month, year. This may be a dilution of power but it is also an indication of an inherent capacity to operate in the world openly, as indeed each one did, conscious or not of the axial design they were fashioning. They were a sort of relay station. What is known as the Solar Line (because of the power of the Sun/Year) is the creative or originating source, the central Pole as it were; the Lunar Line is the receptive vehicle operating in the world as a relay station, a function metaphorically conveyed by the Moon in the harmony of our system in orbit of the Earth, whose rotations provide the full birth numbers in calendar time.
This is another example of up-dating the ancient cosmology. Solar and Lunar Dynasties were a firm feature of the previous descents of Vishnu’s avataric line: Sri Ram belonged to the solar dynasty and Sri Krishna to the lunar. Their epics provide the precise details to confirm these cosmic/zodiacal designations (see Secrets of the Earth, PNB, Aeon Books, 2009). But today, in this time of culmination and spherical convergence, we may naturally expect the Lines (formerly dynasties) to be simultaneous. Important to note is that the new arrangement is still faithful to the Vedic Laws; indeed, contemporary history serves, as we have noted, to confirm the value of those ancient precepts, with the additional ingredient of applicability.
Thus, a scrutiny of events through historical analysis cannot provide a really complete and accurate understanding of the affairs of states and nations; rather, the Vedic up-dated Formula makes sense of those events providing a framework that far surpasses anything contemporary society has accomplished so far. At the same time, and this is significant because once again fundamentalism and dogmatism are exposed as tools for fossilisation, it is revealed that the Supramental Shakti and the Formula of Supermind does not need to violate contemporary processes. On the contrary, being the creator of what transpires on Earth, it uses the totality of conditions at any given moment for its manifestation. We thus see how three of the Lunar Line were time and again voted to power through regular democratic processes – precisely because we are in the Age of Aquarius and therefore the Time-Spirit’s favourite tool is democracy: it is the time of universal transformation and the lived and harmonised experience of the One and the Many as the Sun’s symbol describes: the voice of the people is heard.
Details of the Solar Line are as follows: Sri Aurobindo, 1872=9; the Mother, 1878=6); Thea, 1938=3). To be noted is that there is a gap of 66/60 years between 9 and 6, and then the 3. This has been conveyed in the Avatar’s lotus-symbol by the separation between the lotus petals and the three leaves, revealing a stunning prophetic capacity: the symbol was designed long before the full details of the Line were known, even before the Third was born.
Before concluding mention must be made of another creative act of the Solar Line, this time involving the discipline of sacred architecture and geometry, equally an ‘obsession’ of all ancient civilisations throughout the world. But similar to the other topics we have discussed, only in India do we find that thread connecting today’s culture through the Puranic period right to the Vedic Age. However, as with all things Vedic, an up-dating is now required which we can do because of the in-built system of renewal that has reached us from those former times. It is the ancient art of temple-building that now captures our attention.
The Mother has provided us with this up-dating through her visionary act of a temple’s Inner Chamber with its accompanying architectural plan, Vedic to the core in the purest sense of the term. Her greatest legacy to humanity and particularly to India has been this detailed plan, a blueprint of the cosmic harmonies; or, as it is termed in select schools such as that of the renowned teacher I. Gurdjieff, a ‘new model of the universe’. The essence of her design, with its accurate and detailed measurements, is again, as we might expect, Capricorn; at the same time it conclusively establishes which calendar should be used by Hindus, the Vedic Sayana and not the current Nirayana calendar. As I have done throughout this study, the Mother has also established the full and true dimensions of Akhand Bharat – that is, 30 + 40 (latitude and longitude respectively). This has brought sacred architecture and geometry to another level, worthy of the Supramental Manifestation that she heralded in 1956. On that foundation the Mother was able to engage in this renewed ‘act of measuring’ and to put the art in its proper place in contemporary Hindu society.
A word of caution however: the Mother’s original vision and plan are not to be confused with the Matrimandir built in her name. The structure in Auroville is only a shadow of her original, though the public is encouraged to believe that the building there is her design. Rather, it is the architect’s improvisation on her theme, by which he altered every detail she had given; therefore the revised version has lost all its original Vedic content and left only an empty shell in its place (see Chronicles of the Inner Chamber, PNB, 2009, www.matacom.com for details of the Mother’s original).

In this brief study only a small portion of the particulars of both Lines is being presented, space not permitting anything more. For the full details The New Way series may be consulted, and also the latest publication Secrets of the Earth which deals in detail with the Vishnu Line of Ten and the new culminating arrangement. It needs to be stated that there are no less than twelve individuals who complete the harmony. We see, for example, the place of Mahatma Gandhi in the scheme which helps us realise that titles such as Father of the Nation may well have to be re-thought, though we do observe nonetheless the control of Mahakal in evidence at the birth of the nation because it occurred on Sri Aurobindo’s birthday. There is one axial-truth: the Solar and Lunar Lines. The rest find their place in that scheme, their rightful place. Their participation is not at all diminished by this superior and comprehensive arrangement; rather, the key to the Supramental Manifestation lies in its ability to put each thing in its place on ITS terms, regardless of the consternation this may create, or offenses to ideological preferences, of whichever persuasion.
The design arranged for the new India is not political, or an unstable axis tilting sometimes Left, sometimes Right. Its truth is proven by the march of Time and the unfolding of the play of circumstances. It needs no other proof nor adherence, for belief changes nothing of WHAT IS, as this study has demonstrated. The new rests upon and draws sustenance from the old. India’s ancient heritage with its in-built mechanism for renewal is her sanatana dharma. We may lose sight of that foundation at our own peril, because then we risk becoming like all the other nations on Earth that finally succumbed to forces closed to the ways of the Mother. If anything, what this series has proven is that the attempt since independence to diminish Hinduism to the point where it poses no ‘threat’ to exclusivist religions and ideologies, is to play into the hands of hegemonic powers which, through the same tactic sought to be used in India, have systematically destroyed all ancient cultures which indeed posed a threat to their designs of world domination (witness Nepal).
In spite of these failings, we see displayed in the Axes of Births stretched across a century the invincible power of what Hinduism has always known to be the controlling majesty of Mahakal. Nothing else displays this quality like the revelation of the Solar and Lunar Lines, the stabilising Axes the new India would require as holding power during the foreseen period of break up, renewal and re-establishment, as an aid to conquer precisely those divisive forces. Not for herself alone; for the entire Earth.
This is all contained in India’s ruling sign, Capricorn – the sign of the Axis, of Mahakal, of the Time-Spirit, of Destiny and Dharma. To deny these truths of her ancient tradition is to deny India her dharma and to establish in its place cultures that have no relation to the ‘thread’ that sustains that Dharma throughout the ages: the Vishnu Line of Ten Avatars.
