India, Egypt and the Enigmatic Sphinx

IN Message 2, I mentioned the central focus of the ancient Egyptian civilisation with respect to the Indian and the line both civilisations had been pursuing from ancient times. I have developed the theme elsewhere in depth. The Egyptian was spatial, I wrote, while India’s task involved the temporal. Hence the importance a discussion such as this assumes.
Researchers have been intrigued by certain enigmatic monuments Egypt has bequeathed to us, to the extent that for a very long time the existence on Earth of such phenomenal engineering displays was played down – for some reason it was embarrassing to admit that there had been ancient cultures capable of what we cannot repeat today. For instance, school children are taught even today that the Great Pyramid at Giza was built by slave labour as a tomb to satisfy a megalomaniac ruler. It did not matter that this slave-driven feat could not have been executed anywhere on Earth at the time the Pyramid began to occupy our attention, somewhere in the 19th Century. The tale was told and re-told until finally no further questions were asked.
This situation prevailed until well into the 20th Century. When it was accepted that our technology had not reached the point where a colossus of that nature could be built by us, in spite of our advanced equipment, questions began to be asked and a number of theories emerged: the Great Pyramid began to reveal its secrets – some of them, but not all.
As for the theory that the ancient Initiates of Egypt could somehow manipulate molecules to disassemble and re-assemble the Pyramid’s humongous stone blocks in order to set them in place at the height of a 40-story building, evidence to suggest that this is possible emerged not in conventional halls of science but by the humble and largely unpublicised accomplishment of a man on the fringe of engineering, Ed Leedskalnin and his Coral Castle. For those interested, the evidence of his astonishing feat can be viewed over the Internet.
While acknowledging a number of discoveries by the unorthodox, my curiosity led me to question why it would have been necessary to build such a massive structure. I understood what impelled the Egyptians to expend so much time and energy in the construction of a colossus like the Great Pyramid when I discovered Egypt’s connection to India. It was the Sphinx that confirmed my assessment, I might add. What I discovered would obviously not be on the order of Einstein’s time-space relativity theory but something entirely different. It formed part of that ‘third thing’ the Mother described in the early 1960s, beyond both science and spirituality as they are experienced by us today.
Briefly, the contribution of Egypt was more than clear. In Chronicles of the Inner Chamber, I discussed in detail my perceptions in Update 1 of the series (see www.matacom.com). For the first time I presented what I considered to be the Pyramid’s function within the context of ancient Egypt’s contribution to a process that had already become clear to me but which required to be ‘fleshed out’, so to speak: its involvement with the conquest of Space.
The idea I presented would seem outlandish on the surface, that a re-setting was in order similar to India’s objective, but involving one of the two ‘belts’ encircling the Earth – the space ‘belt’ covering the physical globe, it is important to note. Interestingly, shortly after developing this aspect of the Pyramid’s contribution, a scientific discovery came to light that in large part substantiates my position. The scientist in question confirms that mass of a certain proportion near the Equator can affect the Earth’s alignment. The news item in question appeared in The Hindu, 27 May 2004, entitled 'Why the Earth Wobbles'. I wrote in Chronicles, Update 1,

…This report from scientists at the University of Nevada adds considerable weight to the assessment put forth in these Chronicles…regarding the function of the Great Pyramid.
The 'wobble' referred to in the newspaper report is what creates the Precession of the Equinoxes. Catching up with ancient traditions the world over, science now knows that it takes approximately 26,000 years of the Precession for one gyration to be completed, but more importantly it is now theorising that a shift in mass on the surface of the Earth can alter that rhythm. According to Geoff Blewitt, by using a global positioning system over the past decade and measuring changes in the shape of the Earth, the conclusion his team has arrived at is that ‘…the earth is wobbling while its shape is changing…It bulges at the equator as it's spinning. If the position and height of that bulge changes slightly - we can pick it up'.
This shift in mass changes the wobble and, by consequence, the rhythm of the Precession must change. The builders of the Great Pyramid possessed a technology very far in advance of our own. On this point there can be no dispute. However, what is still being questioned - or rather ignored because there seems to be no 'reasonable' answer - is what the purpose of such a massive structure might have been….The Great Pyramid and its companions had a specific role to play - and incredibly this role embraced the destiny of the entire Earth. The Initiates of those times dealt with the Solar System as if it were a great Clock, and they left us this evidence of their startling ability to re-set this cosmic timepiece.
What has not been addressed, though we continue to give so much thought to HOW the pre-Pharaonic Egyptians carried out the construction, is why such massive stones were required. We seek to understand how they were set in place, realising that today we cannot duplicate such a formidable feat; but no one questions why they needed such enormous blocks to begin with. Considering their very advanced technological capacity, the Pyramids could have been made hollow, if only the shape was required - for whatever purpose. This was not the case. Great effort was put into securing a certain tightly fitted mass. It seems clear enough that this mass is the key issue.
Contemporary science is now edging closer to the discovery of just what a given mass might have been needed for, though it does not apply these discoveries to the Great Pyramid; after all, our text books continue to propagate the misinformation that we are the apex of evolution! How can science now introduce anything that might contradict this dogma?
As stated in these Chronicles and in other publications, a 'shifting of the poles' was required in order to bring about a convergence of the two circles, equatorial and sidereal, in 234 BCE. This was to assure that the Age of Aquarius would begin in 1926. According to the newspaper report, '…Large amounts of mass need to be moved from one place to another so that the Earth is “off balance” to make the Earth wobble, according to Blewitt, who said the North Pole then adjusts to a new position to compensate.' (Emphasis ours)

With the Great Pyramid constructed at very precise longitude and latitude coordinates and at a specific Age in the Precessional unfolding, with an orientation to the Poles added to the equation of a precision that engineers can hardly repeat today, the size and weight of its enormous stone blocks does not seem to have been purposeless. If it had been, why was so much energy expended in their transport from a far away location to the site, especially if we go along with the conventional theory that it was merely a tomb built long before ‘civilisation’ had reached the shores of the Nile?1
The Egyptian re-alignment and re-setting would have taken place in the Age of Leo some 12,000 years ago – once again contradicting conventional theories. While the date for the Pyramid has not been conclusively proven, it is now widely accepted that the Sphinx was constructed during that same Age, confirmed by geologists when observing its weathering patterns with an open mind. The geological evidence proves that the Sphinx had to have been sculpted during a period of significant rainfall. This last occurred during the 7th Manifestation and the time of the appearance of Vishnu’s 7th Avatar, Sri Ram – approximately within the specified geological framework as supported by the new cosmology. We find further confirmation in the details of the Sphinx symbolism from the zodiac itself – half Lion, or the Age of Leo; the other Man-half points to our present 9th Manifestation and the appearance of Vishnu’s 9th Avatar in the Age of the Friend/Man, which in the zodiac is Aquarius. In the Rig Veda verses precisely to Vishnu, this symbolism is referred to specifically as the Friend (‘Mitra’), the last ‘step’ of Vishnu while measuring the universe. This is the applicable interpretation based on the cosmic harmony, while the orthodox version is not:

1.  Of Vishnu now I declare the mighty works, who has measured out the earthly worlds and that higher seat of our self-accomplishing he supports, he the wide-moving, in the threefold steps of his universal movement.
2. That Vishnu affirms on high by his mightiness and he is like a terrible Lion that ranges in the difficult places, yea, his lair is on the mountain-tops, he in whose three wide movements all the worlds find their dwelling-place.
3.  Let our strength and our thought go forward to Vishnu the all-pervading, the wide-moving Bull whose dwelling- place is on the mountain, he who being One has measured all this long and far-extending seat of our self-accomplishing by only three of his strides.
4.  He whose three steps are full of the honey- wine and they perish not but have ecstasy by the self-harmony of their nature; yea, he being One holds the triple principle and earth and heaven also, even all the worlds.
5.  May I attain to and enjoy that goal of his movement, the Delight, where souls that seek the godhead have the rapture; for there in that highest step of the wide-moving Vishnu is that Friend of men who is the fount of the sweetness.
6.  Those are the dwellings-places of ye twain which we desire as the goal of our journey, where the many-horned herds of Light go travelling; the highest step of wide-moving Vishnu shines down on us here in its manifold vastness.  (Rig Veda 1.154)

Thus we have an axis formed in the Sphinx, whose secret is revealed by the Precession of the Equinoxes linking the two Manifestations, the 7th and the 9th, and the Ages of Leo and Aquarius, as my Map of the 12 Manifestations demonstrates. and The New Way (1981)
Aeon Books

The Ages of Preservation (Vishnu’s period of appearance) have been preserved in the Sphinx symbolism taken directly from the zodiac – Leo (Lion) and Aquarius (Man/Friend), the first and last of Vishnu’s three strides. In between is Taurus the Bull, Krishnavatar’s appearance in the 8th Manifestation, as the Map indicates. When the Precession of the Equinox is employed correctly, we learn that the Man/Friend is Aquarius, our very own Age, and that it began in 1926. On the other hand, if we go by the Nirayana system, we have to wait perhaps 500 years for India to catch up!
When the correct cosmic key is unveiled enigmas no longer remain and speculation is silenced. The problem is the usual one: vested interests. Added to the Nirayana pundits we have the entire scientific community intent on securing that the ‘enigma’ remains in place. There are so many ways to pin a civilisation down. But it has to be borne in mind that what is being written in these Messages refers to a collective realisation. Throughout India we find individual yogis even today who have realised the cosmic truth; many at the Mahakumbh itself, no doubt. It is what has kept the ‘thread’ intact over the millennia. What is required at this crossroads of destiny is an enlightened calendar that can incorporate the mass engendered by the energies of 80% of 1.2 billion people. This is the call of the hour, not for herself but for the entire world. And this is the purpose of a calendar to govern the extended body of a civilisation which is not expected to have a realisation for which an entire life has to be dedicated: it can be embodied in a calendar, as it had been across the millennia prior to the Age of Pisces. For centuries upon centuries the ‘thread’ could be carried on by those individual realisations; but the events of the last Age have forced the issue now and more is required – collectively.
Astronomers insist that only the sidereal circle of the constellations is of value, with its shifting zodiac, whereas the Tropical and the Sidereal are of equal importance but they serve different functions. In other words, with Mahasaraswati’s grace we are simply putting each thing in its place and drawing the benefits thereof. For instance, the Map above is based on the Precessional movement and the extension of the equinoctial plane the Earth’s wobble traces in the sky within the same measure of 12. If we believe astronomers that it is the physical circle of the constellations, we are falling into the trap of relativism: the 0 starting point can be anywhere. Moreover, the physical constellations refuse to oblige and to adhere to the measure of 12 (360 ÷ 30); some are far smaller, some far larger. In addition, if we are unable to connect correctly those 25,920 years of the Precessional Great Year to the calendar we use, it is of no use and serves, as stated, to drag us off track – in India’s case by half a millennium! The ‘weight’ of that error has accumulated to the point where correction is now imperative.
Most readers will require some form of confirmation from the scriptures for the above to be accepted – i.e. the measure of 12 of the 360-degree circle, Precessional or Tropical. I can do so by quoting the pertinent verses of the Rig Veda itself which describe in detail the very diagram I presented in 1973 before coming upon these verses:

Twelve spokes, one wheel, navels three.
Who can comprehend this?
On it are placed together
Three hundred and sixty like pegs.
They shake not in the least.
(Rig Veda 1.154.48)

There are 12 ‘spokes’ within the one wheel which consists of 360 ‘pegs’. This cannot be denied. The intriguing part is the Rishi’s mention of ‘navels three’. Rightly he asks, Who can comprehend this? The Map of 12 Manifestations answers the question because it contains indeed three hubs in its static form. But when dynamism is added by the impulsion of Time, they become spirals just as the above diagram describes, all within ONE WHEEL. There is no ambiguity, no fumbling or fudging. The verses are clear – or they are rendered clear when the Cosmic Truth is seen.
However, the most important line of all is the last, ‘They shake not in the least’. Or else as stated in the Atharva Veda: they are firmly riveted. These verses alone should be sufficient grounds to dismiss the current Nirayana system which SHAKES; and within the sidereal sphere which it employs at the behest of scientists NOTHING CAN BE RIVETED because it is constantly shifting. It is perforce relative, lacking in any objectivity, in contrast to the Tropical Zodiac that NEVER SHAKES. If scriptural approval is required, with these verses who can continue to doubt and raise objections?
The mystery is finally solved by Time, but not according to the flawed dictates of astronomers, those in India and abroad. It is rather an appreciation of the Cosmic Harmony as revealed by the sages of old and open to all who approach the matter in the correct poise of consciousness. And true to the message of the Sphinx, the obligation of time conquest – the theme of this Message – is India’s duty, destined to be fulfilled during the current Age of Aquarius, or the period when the Vishnu Avatar makes his appearance to ‘re-set the cosmic clock’.
It is obvious that in order to have any convincing value a certain coherency has to be present to lend credence to an assertion such as I am making. In 1977, I gave the key to the methodology when I wrote in The New Way, Vol. 2, Chapter 9, page 369-70,

The Ganges, on the other hand, does not move against the current of her inherent nature and essence.  Therefore she is eternal, and she carries the seeds of an undying Truth through the body of India. Her Truth is indeed elusive, as is the nature of Time and the essence of the Spirit, and there are no concrete or solidified monuments representing this Truth, which can bear testimony to it through the long corridors of Time and withstand its ravages. The Truth of the Ganges is one of Consciousness, and it is this that is preserved throughout the ages. This Truth can be ‘measured’, and in this way it is brought down into the Earth dimension to a greater degree…
India has always been the cradle of the Spirit. This destiny can endure through time because it is the very power of Time that sustains the destiny’s fulfilment. But it is a destiny which expresses itself through Consciousness. For this reason India is the cradle of the new race…
Now that the moment has come in the harmony of the Earth’s Time for the new to arise, India can fulfil her destiny in perfect attunement with her inherent dharma. Now we come to the core of the movement in Earth-Time where the beginnings of the new world and race arise. And so we have reached the moment when the jungle of human consciousness that has hidden the truth of Ganga throughout the ages can be cut away and the sacred River Goddess can stand [exposed] before our eyes. She unveils herself – the womb that carries Shiva’s seed.
In The New Way, Vol.2, I noted the role of Ganga and the Kumbh Mela in the cosmic harmony, and that it is India’s people, the ‘energy’ of consciousness contained in her human population – in contrast to the material mass of the Great Pyramid – that is the mass needed today for the Time Axis of the planet to be ‘re-set’ or brought into a new alignment. In other words, via the time-honoured realisations of her sages across the ages, but extended to the population at large through an enlightened calendar for the purpose. For as I wrote in Message 2, given the volume of the destructive (‘stockpiled’) power the Earth is saddled with, a proportionate ‘mass’ of India’s (over)population is also a necessary though temporary factor in the equation; that proportionate ‘mass’ of human consciousness is the element that can ‘tilt’ the scales in favour of the Earth’s salvation with respect to the conquest that makes of Time an ‘ally’. India has to shift the Earth’s subtle and elusive time axis to fulfil this task by a conscious, knowledgeable action.
However, it is not just any human mass that suffices, because in that case China could lay claim to the task rather than India. This mass has to be supported by a cosmology that in an unbroken line is maintained yuge-yuge, or through the periods of the 7th, 8th, and 9th Avatars. China cannot lay claim to Centreship because of its ‘mass’ alone, proportionate though this may be. It lacks that Vedic ‘thread’ – and especially the backbone provided to the civilisation by the periodic appearances of the Vishnu Dasavataras, known significantly as offspring of the Time-Spirit. With the understanding that India’s role is universal and at the service of the entire Earth and not just her own people, every attempt would be made to give whatever assistance possible to facilitate her fulfilment. But if we cling to the old binary formula, as all nations are doing, with its demand for the axial balance ‘superpowers’ provide, then China’s struggle to be first makes sense. It ‘makes sense’ but only in a linear world, not the sphericality that Time demands (see diagram above). The struggle for supremacy in a dying world may tilt the scales with losers on all sides. Hence the need for India to unveil her Centreship at the earliest so that she can ‘hold’, and in the process deflect what appears to be an unavoidable calamity ahead.
This is the essence of the new way that puts each thing in its place in a new order for the world.

The Partition of India, its cause, its purpose - PART TWO

An analysis based on the new Indo-Centric Cosmology

3.9.2009 – 13.10.2009

The importance of knowing Destiny is that one does not seek to manipulate or mould an individual to fit a particular pattern that is not a suitable vehicle to express one’s destiny, or one’s dharma. More precisely, the purpose of incarnation is so that a harmony may be experienced in this universe between one’s individual time and space ‘coordinates’. However, the prevailing notion that birth is meant to provide a field wherein the individual soul can escape from these principles is false. It is an illusion we are saddled with so that we continue to serve as fodder in the great machine of evolution. But after the developments of the last astrological age, the only ‘truth’ spirituality teaches us is escape in one form or another. We therefore enter life with the sole objective of liberation from life, particularly from life on Earth – surely a rather incongruous situation: take birth to escape birth. This objective may be vehemently denied; nonetheless, if we probe deeply enough into the tenets of every religion or of every spiritual path the end result is the same: escape. We are encouraged to accept that the purpose of birth – at least on planet Earth – is to eventually reach a state where we are never born again. This ‘field’ is simply for expiation of one’s sins or the payment of accumulated karmic debts, – and little more.
Those who apparently revere the Earth as an embodiment of the Goddess herself are the most likely to protest at the above. But let us take one particular path as an example, Tantra. Surely if there is any spiritual discipline that qualifies for Earth-centredness it would be Tantra insofar as it does not reject the fetters of the human species but rather seeks to utilise them to attain the supreme goal of that path. Even more to the point is that extreme branch of Tantra, Aghora, which dives into the most abject of human conditions and embraces them as the means to attain the highest reaches of that particular discipline. Yet, once again if we probe deeply into Aghora/Tantra and its goals we see clearly that similar to the rest of Indian spirituality and the world’s most famous religions, though the ways of the Earth are embraced and used for release of the Kundalini, the ultimate goal is that She reach the highest chakra¸ the Sahasrapadma, located, significantly, OUTSIDE the body. The message is clear: the ultimate realisation is attained once one has found liberation from these bondages. The human condition may be accepted in Tantra, but the goal is likewise to pay one’s karmic debt and finally attain the supreme realisation when the Kundalini reaches a point outside of the body. Most do not question the incongruence of this position. Perhaps it is time to do so given the gravity of the situation we face collectively, especially in India.
The carrot dangled before us in all these quests is the promise of ‘heaven’, of everlasting peace and well being – somewhere, but certainly not on Earth. This home of ours has known nothing but rejection for the past several thousand years. Is it any wonder that we have succeeded in bringing civilisation to the brink of complete annihilation? Of course not. All is perfectly as it should be.
There is an individual destiny and also a collective destiny. For the individual the method used to probe the depths of one’s purpose on Earth in any given lifetime is the natal horoscope. For millennia tradition has remained unchanged in the construction of a person’s birth chart. One simply reproduces the condition of the surrounding cosmos at the exact time of birth when the first independent breath is taken, and those resultant planetary aspects are seen to converge on a particular point on the globe which would be the individual birth in question. Regardless of the fact that the Earth and planets are known to orbit the Sun, which in turn orbits the galactic centre, the individual at birth becomes the centre of the universe insofar as he or she is the converging point of the circumscribing cosmos. The idea is to read the resultant chart of this convergence by the ancient Vedic laws of correspondence and equivalence, and to distill thereby significant elements of that individual’s destiny.
Regarding the collective destiny there is no such horoscope available for the simple reason that we could never agree on the ‘first breath’ of our planet, as we can for an individual incarnation. In this regard there is an interesting point to observe: in a sense the urge of astronomers and physicists to pinpoint the beginning of time and the ‘big bang’, incongruous as this postulation may be in the higher vision, is understandable. In their own way scientists seek to know destiny. For many of them it is as obsessive as the human being’s insatiable thirst to acquire the same knowledge. Thus, admittedly this question of Destiny haunts us. The thirst to know the future has been an abiding desire from the moment the human being began to seriously ponder life’s mysteries, central to which is undeniably one’s purpose in taking birth at all when each of us faces ineluctable death. What then is the purpose in such an inescapable and seemingly fruitless pursuit? Why bother at all if at the end of our sojourn lies oblivion and nothing more?
Wisemen have filled the comatose-like gap by promises of a comforting afterlife. All, except the Vedic Rishis, have assured us that there is a better beyond and we need to use our time on Earth profitably so that we can reach that ‘heaven’ someday, somehow, somewhere. But is this what the Earth’s ‘horoscope’ teaches us?
The obvious next question that comes to mind is what that ‘horoscope’ might be when there is no ‘first breath’ and hence no Zero Point (lagna) that can allow us to make the Earth that indispensable centre or convergence point which every horoscope must bear if it is to be dynamic or perfectly balanced in time and space and therefore in rhythm with a dynamic universe? The Bhagavad Gita provides the answer. Sri Krishna not only tells Arjun that Vishnu’s emanations, such as he is, come yuge, yuge, but he shows him how that Power works (Chapter 11); at which point the tender-hearted warrior recoils. He cannot bear the vision of the mightiest God of all – Mahakala, the Great Time. Nonetheless, that vision is the supreme Rahasya of the 8th Avatar. The secret of secrets is that only through the successive births of Vishnu’s Evolutionary Avatars can that true and not imaginary Zero Point (ayanamsha) be known which alone reveals the collective destiny, which alone allows us to cast the Earth’s own ‘horoscope’.
In any natal horoscope the individual becomes the converging point or the centre onto which the harmonies of the cosmos are projected. He or she is the ‘centre’, without which there is no order and certainly no starting point for destiny to begin to unfold in the trajectory of one’s allotted life span. The collective horoscope requires a centre for the same purpose. If we want to study the destiny of our planetary home we are obliged to ‘construct’ the Earth’s horoscope. Foremost is the detection of her ‘centre’ of any given age. Sri Krishna makes this clear: he comes from age to age. In this it is implied that only by the birth of Vishnu’s emanations of a special order and with a special cosmic alignment can that ‘centre’ be located. The difficulty lies in the fact that we are looking at long stretches of time – to be precise, more than 6000 years between appearances. Tradition rightfully tells us that in the interim between the 8th and the 9th descents a Dark Age set in, a kaliyuga, just as the name implies. But that ‘darkness’ prevails only as long as the ‘light’ does not come. And this, succinctly, is the purpose of Avatarhood: his coming itself removes the veils, he discloses what had been occulted for millennia; above all he reveals that hidden centre, without which the Earth must surely perish. In fact, even his coming is not enough. In this particular Age of Vishnu salvation for the Earth lies in awareness, in knowledge – and not in a tamasic devotion born of ignorance.
In this 9th Manifestation beginning in 234 BCE and lasting 6480 years thereafter, that Centre of the Earth is India. This is not an arbitrary choice of any visionary or sage; it has been so decreed from time immemorial and nothing can change that preordained role. But it is certainly not an envious position to hold. Being the centre simply means that all the problems our civilisation has been saddled with as legacy from the last astrological Age of Pisces are lodged in the destined Centre, drawn into the particular convergence of time and space which allows for those problems to be dealt with and through which, by the Laws of Correspondence and Equivalence, the entire Earth can be reached. Only what transpires in the Earth’s true cosmological centre can affect the whole planet.
Partition of this Body of the Mother therefore takes on a singular importance. As Centre it describes the condition of the Earth, her weakened condition, we must add. A preordained Centre such as Vishnu describes requires a perfect balance of energies for survival to successfully bear the burden of destiny it carries. Contemporary India after partition displays a Body where great gaps exist from where those energies find escape. It is as if the Mother’s arms had been severely disabled with the consequent loss of power.
To understand what exactly that balance might be and consequently what areas of the Body have been affected, and why, we must turn to cosmology for answers. It is the revelation of the cosmic harmonies for this 9th Manifestation that discloses just what the contours and the exact dimensions of the Mother’s full and true body are, partition of which has caused and continues to cause such severe distress to the peoples of the subcontinent.

The Warrior-Child of Ayodhya - 3

The significance of his appearance
for the Hindu Samaj

Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet (Thea)
Director, Aeon Centre of Cosmology
South India, 17.10.2010

Parts 1 and 2 of this series dedicated to Ramlala have brought forward the need to revisit the calendars in use by the Hindu Samaj, which on numerous occasions I have described as a very clever device to divide 80% of the energies of India’s population. Given the campaign carried out over the past 18 years to bring this matter into prominence, results are finally forthcoming: several Hindu organisations have adopted resolutions calling for a uniform calendar to replace the dozen or more that presently exist. In the words of Jawaharlal Nehru to the Calendar Reform Committee on February 18, 1953:

…I am told that we have at present thirty different calendars, differing from each other in various ways, including the methods of time reckoning. These calendars are the natural result of our past political and cultural history and partly represent past political divisions in the country. Now that we have attained independence, it is obviously desirable that there should be a certain uniformity in the calendar for our civic, social and other purposes and that this should be based on a scientific approach to this problem…It is always difficult to change a calendar to which people are used [to] because it affects social practices, but the attempt has to be made even though it may not be as complete as desired. In any event, the present confusion in our own calendars in India ought to be removed… [Italics mine].

Indeed, each of these calendars has its own method of time reckoning which means that followers of one school prefer a certain ayanamsha (zero starting point) over another; sections of Hindus will celebrate festivals accordingly, as stipulated in a given panchanga (almanac) that is provided by the representative pundits of each school. In other words, each group clings to its own ‘science’ for providing the ‘correct’ ayanamsha. In view of these discrepancies, in spite of any good will that might exist and the best efforts and intentions on the part of the current reformists, the unity I write of and which would form the basis of the cosmic connection for the entire Samaj is unlikely to come about. When all is said and done, out of the numerous ayanamshas currently in use, which one is to serve as the unifying factor? Which is the correct one and who is to determine that correctness? How are we to come to an agreement as to which should be adopted out of so many?
In this age of egalitarianism we resolve such tangles by rule of the majority. Are we therefore to apply that same method in the reformation of the Hindu calendar? Would then the most widely used ayanamsha be the solution based on a majority vote?
In terms of Vedic matters a selective process of this sort appears to be an anachronism. The only basis for deciding this most important of all items on the Hindu agenda would be veda, knowledge. But such Knowledge is the preserve of very few; and those who do possess true veda of the ancient school would not be recognised by today’s enlightened souls precisely because of its antiquity. Everything that we have come to cherish in today’s world of spirituality has to be rightly termed post-Vedic. And since a return to the ancient-most source is the only way to come to a decision regarding matters of time and circumstance, given that the Yoga of the Rig Veda has long been forgotten on the subcontinent, whosoever might have realised that high truth would most likely not be understood or accepted as its proponent. Happily, Ramlala has appeared on the scene to save the day.
Inchoate mass acts as inertia and holds back the Samaj from experiencing the unity that existed in the Vedic Age. All we know today is a spirituality that has carried the Samaj away from the ancient roots and because of this very distancing a plethora of ayanamshas and their respective calendars for ritual observances and horoscopy could come about. Simply put, the Divine Maya, or Measure, of the Veda was lost almost 2000 years ago. In the interim the civilisation has experienced a steady, relentless decline. Invasions, colonisations resulted, and finally partition of the Mother’s sacred Body. The issue now is to arrest that decline, reverse the direction and re-instate the highest Truth ever to manifest on Earth. For Hindus the spirituality of Supermind rather than superpower-hood is the goal.
However, the Hindu organisations that are spear-heading the current campaigns to reform the calendar, are simply seeking uniformity for the Samaj, a choice to be made between all the ayanamshas (majority rule?), none of which are based on veda.
In his masterful The Secret of the Veda, Sri Aurobindo explained the problem succinctly: ‘…The letter lived on when the spirit was forgotten; the symbol, the body of the doctrine, remained, but the soul of knowledge had fled from its coverings.’ And in another context, when writing to the Mother, his co-worker, about a certain experience she had on 26.11.1915, he stated, ‘The experience you have described is Vedic in the real sense, though not one which would easily be recognised by the modern systems of Yoga which call themselves Vedic. It is the union of the “Earth” of the Veda and the Purana with the divine Principle, an earth which is said to be above our earth, that is to say, the physical being and consciousness of which the world and the body are only images. But the modern Yogas hardly recognise the possibility of a material union with the Divine’ (31.12.1915). In these few words Sri Aurobindo has captured the essence of the problem that plagues calendar reform efforts today: the loss of the Divine Measure.
The date of the Mother’s Vedic experience is important to note, though at the time it passed unnoticed. However, 34 years later on 26.11.1949 it would occupy centrestage in the life of a new India by this being the very date of adoption of the Constitution. Prior to this, in 1926 the same date surfaced in the combined yogas of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother when it would become known through them as Immortality Day, requiring a further 37 years for validation. Thus, in 1963 on this date the Hindu Line of Ten Avatars was completed in perfect harmony with the deepest Vedic essence of the Dasavataras, the backbone of Hinduism. Its importance was further highlighted by the combined passings of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo (23 years apart), the former on 17/11 and the latter on 5/12. Immortality Day is the exact midpoint of the 18 days between the two. Recent events have given an iconic resonance to 26/11 through the tragic event in Mumbai in 2008 on that very day, thereby marking a before and after in contemporary history on the subcontinent: the unfolding of an integration process is now accelerated.
There are several dates to add to the list, cycles mainly of 7 and multiples thereof – a number of preference for the 7th Avatar. It is not possible to describe the significance of each one since a background in the Supramental Yoga would be required which this brief space does not permit. Suffice to state that the most meaningful occurred 34 (=7) years after 1949. A major yogic breakthrough took place then that can succinctly be described as ‘filling the Void’ – the unveiling by an intense tapasya of the Plenum-Point by and through the aid of Time. It was a Yoga based entirely on the Year – or rather the Year facilitated the occurrence, similar to what Bhisma of the Mahabharat experienced in his passage to the realm of the Immortals. With this singular Vedic accomplishment, what could be termed the Binary Creation ceased to hold the world in its grip – the unity of the Point took over. This occurred in 1983-4, after which the binary superpower structure collapsed introducing a very different global experience, opening the way ultimately to a new creation founded on unity. Interestingly Ram played a central role in the breakthrough, immediately after which the Ramjanmabhoomi movement began; then in 1986 Ramlala was liberated from his 36-year seclusion, as if from a period of sanyas. (For details see The New Way, Volume 3, Aeon Books, written in 1983 and published in 2005.)
Coincidences, we again ask? Their volume makes the term somewhat nonsensical. Science will have to seek another escape route to explain the apparently inexplicable.
All the above dates serve to affirm the relevance of the Dasavataras of Vishnu. Indeed, this is the focus of my treatment. In these pages I will disclose the method by which the relevance of the Line of Ten is made contemporary and factual, drawn out of the realm of Myth. The Line and its accompanying Myth describe recurring history which the Ramlala appearance in 1949 consolidates. Myth becomes history before our very eyes, hinging on the fateful night of 22-23 December in that fateful year when he took possession of his sacred abode.
Most important of all for the Hindu Samaj, by his appearance Ramlala solved the conundrum of the correct Hindu Calendar and all matters connected thereto.

The Solstice shortest day of the year occurred during the night of 22-23 December in 1949 – the very time of Ramlala’s appearance in the erstwhile Babri Masjid in the form of a child. I have explained earlier in this series the importance of the form selected, insofar as the Idol as Child ‘grew’ pari passu with the newly-born Indian Republic. But this Solstice has long held a singular position of importance for Vedic civilisation, as many scriptures and the Epics confirm. Perhaps most exemplary of all is the Mahabharat Epic which begins precisely on that Solstice. However, it is Bhisma of the tale who sheds accurate light on the Solstice’s special significance by having chosen that very date as the time he would leave this plane. His choice elucidates an aspect of this particular Solstice and why it has always been considered the most sacred period in Vedic culture.
Its esoteric symbology is that the solar light (cows/rays/energy) experiences maximum compression then, even as daylight is compressed to its shortest length for the northern hemisphere. When exiting this plane of existence the human being experiences the same compression as if to a point of his or her consciousness-being. This is on the order of a scientific wormhole. Only through this extreme compression and with the allegiance of Time can there be entry into Swar, the realm of the Immortals – a conscious passage, it needs to be stated, as Bhisma carried out.
There has been evidence of the compression I refer to in the extensive number of reports of near-death experiences (NDE). All subjects confirm finding themselves in a sort of tunnel when they leave their physical bodies, at the end of which they see a light. This luminous essence envelops them before they return to their bodies and to life on Earth. What that Light is for each person is subject to individual conditioning, because complete detachment from the body has not occurred and memories of one’s lived experience in that body are maintained. No one has returned to tell the tale of what exactly happens once definitive severance has transpired; we know only a part of the process, namely the passage through a compressed darkness as in a tunnel and the experience of light at the end of the passage.
The ‘tunnel’ is the compression, the same as Bhisma would have experienced to reach Swar consciously. It was facilitated by the time set for his departure, which also left a record for the future of the importance of the December Solstice’s and its connection to the Veda.
It is to be recalled that the central figure of the Vedic Sacrifice is precisely the Year whose balancing points in time and space are the Solstices and Equinoxes. Given the above, it stands that our relationship to the Year must be of supreme importance for descendants of the Immortal Ones. But a year with many ayanamshas certainly does not pay tribute or live up to the standards set by the Rishis. However, Ram the Child has come to reinstate the Vedic Year by himself timing his appearance to coincide exactly with the December Solstice. In so doing, he offers us the key to renewal and re-establishment of the ancient truths of the land and the key to the correct ayanamsha.
However, it is not sufficient to establish the December Solstice as the key to the rightness of calendrical matters. That is only half the equation. Today’s pundits have gone a step further in distancing themselves from the Veda. They do accept that the shortest day in the northern hemisphere is the December Solstice, because they cannot deny the physical fact and astronomical observations. But veda was set aside in matters temporal when they boldly disconnected zodiacal Capricorn/Makar from that Solstice, an aberration known only to post-Vedic India and nowhere else on the globe. Without zodiacal Makar joined to the Solstice there cannot be veda in the fullest sense of the word; and positing Makar Sankranti 23 days after said Solstice makes a mockery of Bhisma’s choice and so many other myths incorporating this sacred passage. It is the new cosmology of our present times that conclusively proves the undeniable unity of the two – Solstice and Zodiac, especially Makar of the twelve signs/months, because as known to astrologers from time immemorial this has universally been considered India’s astrological ruler.
Thus Ramlala not only drew attention to the overlooked December Solstice by his 1949 appearance, but through the Capricorn/Makar rulership he disclosed India’s involvement based on the ancient lore wherein the two are inseparable. The full relevance and impact of his appearance is entirely lost with a Makar Sankranti 23 days after the Solstice. Given this situation, it is not at all surprising that no astrologer, pundit, saint or yogi of the post-Vedic schools has grasped the all-inclusiveness of his 1949 appearance and just why it has occupied centrestage in the affairs of the nation since then, because ‘…the soul of knowledge…’ was lost.
The new cosmology is the new science of Time, updating the cosmology of all that we find in the Vedas and the Puranas. Thus, in this age of rationalism a measure of factuality is demanded of the discipline. However, it is a new ‘science’ that Ramlala unveils; as such the old or even the contemporary science we know with its own incompleteness and limitations cannot be applied to what Ramlala has revealed. His appearance on the Solstice makes it abundantly clear that he stands as confirmation of the accuracy of the new cosmology, as well as of the unity of Solstice and Zodiac. This is accomplished through the sign’s own ancient hieroglyph . In this magical notation, whose origin is lost in the mists of time, we find the history of contemporary India with roots in the distant Vedic Age, brought into the present by the very contours of the glyph itself which astonishingly describes minutely the ‘measure’ of Akhand Bharat – or pre-Independence India, whole and integral.

What would contemporary science make of this synchronisation dating from pre-history, millennia before the advanced cartogrophy and satellite imaging wonders of our times? How could the ancients have known what shape India’s geographical contours would be thousands of years into the future at the time of the British Raj? But the new cosmology does use this ancient hieroglyph to determine longitude and latitude coordinates of Bharat Mata based on its contemporary updated application. Therefore, when its inseparability with the shortest day is grasped, a point in zodiacal time that Ramlala established in 1949, his appearance in the mosque takes on an even more important meaning for India and the Hindu Samaj. It stands as the bowstring of Vedic civilisation in the 21st Century. This was given a conclusive imprimatur by the Ayodhya Verdict of 30 September when the sacred Janmabhoomi was divided into three parts, since the ancient hierolgyph itself is threefold, as the symbol-map confirms which includes the three energy expressions of the Mother, as below.

In this light we cannot fail to see the 1947 partition of Bharat Mata in three parts as connected in a direct line to Ramlala’s appearance two years later in the mosque. (See The Partition of India, Aeon Centre of Cosmology, 2009, an analysis based on the above ancient Capricorn/Makar hieroglyph.) Partition, similar to the Ayodhya conundrum, remains unresolved. Sri Aurobindo’s words at the time of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination refer to this incompletion:

‘…The light which led us to freedom, though not yet to unity, still burns and will burn till it conquers. I believe firmly that a great and united future is the destiny of this nation and its people. The Power that brought us through so much struggle and suffering to freedom, will achieve also, through whatever strife and trouble, the aim which so poignantly occupied the thoughts of the fallen leader at the time of his tragic ending; as it brought us freedom, it will bring us unity. A free and united India will be there and the Mother will gather around her her sons and wield them into a single national strength in the life of a great and united people.’ (5.2.1948)

Is it time for his prophetic vision to come to fruition? Is this the deeper significance of the entire Ayodhya controversy insofar as the same communal divide appears to affect both circumstances? Or, as Ramlala’s Solstice appearance seems to indicate, is a resolution to be sought elsewhere for this matter of such great importance, in an as yet undetected area not apparent to the uninitiated? This recondite dimension would require implementation of the key Ramlala offers: the correct ayanamsha and the union of Makar Sankranti with the Solstice of his appearance for the entire Hindu Samaj – a unity affecting 80% of the population.
Surely for fruition to occur, Sri Aurobindo’s words point to an experience that is able to unite energies now disunited by cutting through obstacles that currently seem insurmountable. Through the time-tested Vedic method of correspondences and equivalences, in which Ramlala is central, this desired unity is accomplished in spite of our resistances, differences and prejudices. Mahakal controls the play of circumstances and has fashioned a method to heal divides that would otherwise remain resistant to the experience of unity.
Ramlala’s message is unmistakable. It has been brought to the fore in the Ayodhya Verdict of the honourable judges – one more step forward in the process of integration that the Avatar oversees.
