The New Order is Born

This is the final posting on Puranic Cosmology Updated (PCU); it has served its purpose. The time has come to create a new forum, and Aeon Centre of Cosmology is in the process of giving shape to that new voice. This development in itself reveals essential features of the new times that open before us the world over.¹

Several items have helped me bring PCU to a close today, as is befitting of a platform that has served to convey the message of integrality. They may seem wildly disconnected – and yet they form a closely knitted web at the centre of which stands the New Way. These are 1) the Australian Open currently in progress, 2) President Obama’s State of the Union address this morning (21.1.2015), and 3) Kiran Bedi’s appointment as candidate for Chief Minister of Delhi; and, above all, her call for ‘a new politics’. Embracing all this has been The Future Realisation breakthroughs, ACC’s presentation in New Delhi from January 1 through 15, 2015, where on display were salient elements of the new cosmology, the overall, comprehensive embrace whereby all things are ‘made new’ when each thing is ‘put in its rightful place’. And, of course, the key that allowed the new cosmology to reach a wider public through TFR is the Mother’s vision and plan of a chamber, the new garbha griha for the new age.

In the Mother’s vision and plan we find a clear indication of how that new order is to come about. In January 1970, exactly 45 years ago from TFR/Delhi, she described the core of her vision as the symbol of the future realisation. On other occasions she spoke of a shadowless consciousness – that is, the aspirant so poised (in time and space, i.e. the measures of our world) directly beneath the rays of a midday Sun that therefore no shadows are cast. But there was far more packed into the vision and description, for indeed the image points to a number of correlated items of the New Way. In that regard we come to the perennial question: chicken or egg? Did the vision compel events to give shape to the New Way, or did the New Way shape the vision in the consciousness of the Seer? Put another way, did Being gives rise to Becoming, or does Becoming create Being, on the order of I think therefore I am?

Most would opt for the eternity of Being out of which Becoming issues, that it precedes the latter. Be that as it may, with the incorporation of Supermind the two are experienced simultaneously: they are simultaneous, not just ‘thought’ to be. Yet our senses and the structure of our physical universe strongly support the perception that only what is real exists, or only what stands on this side of the event horizon (borderline is perhaps a more appropriate label). Supermind bridges this side and that.

Eternal Being ‘exists’ on the other side but does not cease to exist (or function as support and upholder) when the border is crossed; similarly silence does not cease to exist when sound arises – it too is ‘carried over’, a message elegantly conveyed in Indian classical music by the drone/shruti that never ceases to uphold the raga. This fact is what allows for the experience of simultaneity. Certainly one of the foremost indications of the presence of the supramental Truth-Consciousness is the ability not only to perceive the simultaneity of Being and Becoming, but to live in that consciousness with its revolutionising impact on how we conduct ourselves on this side – where that simultaneity of experience is denied. From his transcendent poise Sri Aurobindo has amply elaborated the subject, thereby assisting us in reaching the accuracy that is possible at this stage of the experience. Also here to assist us is the new cosmology.

The All-Inclusive Foundation

Until now we have known only contemporary scientific cosmology. It is the fountainhead of all science today, no matter what discipline. This brand of cosmology deals only with events on this side of the border; hence it is thoroughly engaged in dissecting the structure of our world in its act of Becoming, of evolving, of expanding, while ignoring Being. And it is this discipline that pretends to be the way of salvation from ignorance, backwardness, bigotry and superstition. Consequently, the religious, political, and economic polarisation we find in societies can be attributed to this dispute: science on one side and matters of the spirit, in whatever guise, on the other. This polarisation is tearing societies across the globe to pieces. At the same time, its benefit is to make the insufficiencies inherent in both positions obvious even to the most obdurate champions of either side. And this exposure to help humanity see is likely to increase.

However, this perception is helpful only if we have a foundation that serves as a canvas/backdrop onto which things can be put in their right place, on the basis of which the lens of perception can become focussed. That canvas is what allows us to view the several items mentioned above not only within a fabric of oneness, but also to indicate where we stand in knitting together the whole world.

In this exercise Number comes to our aid. It must be stated that the canvas is required in order to allow Number to speak to us in a new language, itself the outcome of the New Way. Without this formulation there would be little hope of reaching the goal of a new world order. That canvas is the Gnostic Circle, one of the key features of the new cosmology. With its aid let us take the items mentioned to illustrate the process.

           

How would President Obama’s speech have anything to do with tennis? On the surface nothing at all. But through the Gnostic Circle we see that both resonate to the same number 3, an angle of the central triangle (orange colour). And Kiran Bedi’s new politics in the mix? She is the latest addition to Indian politics, whose main platform as she enters the electoral fray is a workable new politics, not confrontational but collaborative. We can easily find a correlation between Bedi and Obama as he presented his agenda this morning, seeking a consensus across party lines. Will either succeed in introducing this novelty into what has always been a platform of confrontation, except in times of war? 

The tools of the new cosmology help us realise that the time has come for the new order to take over from the old. India and America share a common destiny, an axial binding. The number power joining the two is 3 – the Daughter Principle in metaphysics, as well as the number-umbrella of the present stage of the descending Solar Line of 9, 6, 3, a number sequence that I call the axis of the new India (see The New Way, Volume 1, Aeon Books, 1981). Thus, various elements have joined in our very times to play out what Being holds in ‘seed-form’ on the other side of the Border.

As explained in the course of the numerous postings on PCU over the years, particularly the descriptions of the new scientific paradigm, Being contains triadic quanta in a descending compression of the formula 9/6/3/0, each triad of which encompasses a particular aspect of the Absolute that contributes to the constitution of our world in evolution on this side of the border. In that dimension (for want of a better word) there is no relativism. We are there faced with Absolute Truth, whole tones as it were, unknown to our 21^st century civilisation; not only unknown but fiercely combated. Absolutism, as far as science of the relative is concerned, belongs to the domain of religion – i.e., superstition: it cannot be ‘proven’ therefore it does not exist. The avenues for that proof are the disciplines of the science we know today, entirely limited to the cage it has constructed for itself over the past millennium. Its ability to measure and thereby to prove or disprove a theory is entirely dependent on the relative mathematics and physics of contemporary society. But reality is much larger, all-embracing. The new cosmology provides the tools whereby we can measure both sides of the border; above all, whereby we can understand the simultaneity of both – the true description of Reality.

The triadic quanta 9, 6, 3, are measured on this side of the border by our measures of time and space which are the Absolute’s eternity and infinity transposed into our physical universe: the Absolute’s eternity is our time; its infinity is our space, by densification we could say. Further, each triad is measured in the universal calendar via the Mathematics of Unity, known in India as reduction to seed digits. This methodology allows us to link Number on both sides of the horizon. By the intensity of its completeness, the last triadic compaction compels the birth of the One from the 0-Womb; and thus is our physical world of space born. Thereafter Time propels the contents of the Zero-Womb-Seed to the extension of Itself in our material dimension – with no separation between the two; that is, never leaving a void but bearing the seamless continuity of an upholding plenum. The new India has provided the world with the precise display of just how this play-out is arranged, and on the basis of the metaphysical principles each quantum embraces, we can gauge how far evolution has carried us forward in this extension process; and we are able to fill in the details that provide the answers we need for the formation of the new world order that is emerging. Most importantly, we learn of the indispensable addition of diversity (expressed in the sequential series of numbers on this side of the Border) for the full reality and experience of diversity in unity; certainly not only the motto of India but the very nature of the entire world and the evolutionary process.

The Binding Power of Number

Recently I wrote a piece for PCU entitled The Embrace at Last. It dealt with what were by then (10.2.2014) the clear signs of a long-sought rapprochement between the United States of America and India. Written in 1974, I quoted from The Gnostic Circle of this necessity in order for the reign of Truth to begin. It was also explained how the USA and India resonate to the 3 number-power. These details need not detain us here; suffice to state that events since then have made it possible to declare that indeed the time has come.

In his State of the Union address, President Obama appeared as if he had experienced a new birth as a leader. I recall how badly he was faring in his last term and how certain his defeat in the last electoral contest seemed (2012). But the tide was dramatically turned in his favour in the final days of the campaign by Nature herself in the guise of hurricane Sandy. Clearly Obama had something else to do. Thereafter, Prime Minister Modi came along to draw out the best in him; he seemed to gather as much energy from Modi’s USA tour as the prime minister himself. Critical foreign policy changes followed, long-standing alliances began to totter and a new America has emerged on the world stage. For all practical purposes a close partnership on the axis formed with India, foreseen so many decades ago as being the sign of the foundation of a new world order, has begun to bear fruit. In the present context it necessarily means a re-organisation of nations to allow for a harmonious comity to come forward and lead the way into the new Age of Supermind that calls for a more universal, non-parochial consciousness. In this the United States of America is in advance of India, the latter only having emerged from colonial rule comparatively recently. There is still baggage to be discarded for India to embrace the world.

Finally, how can tennis possibly fit into all of this?

Across the globe the status of sports invariably indicates the pulse of a nation: this is because the planet said to ‘rule’ sports is Mars. The vital pulse that Mars brings to the planetary family can be gauged in its strength by the status of sports. Mars also rules war, as well as attributes such as passion, intensity, drive, determination and the conquering capacity, the bringer of victory; not only in war but in any enterprise requiring that quality. We see this in the candidate for chief ministership of Delhi in a suggestive manner: In answer to a question she referred to sports activities having led her to enter the police service – both governed by Mars. In tennis she demonstrated the same drive and conquering ability as she displayed later in the police force insofar as she was the first woman to enter the Indian Police Service. Now she can turn that same capacity to politics. In fact, if the transformation of society could be focussed on one single element at this stage of our collective development it would be Mars. There will be a lot more to explain in this regard in the months and years ahead because this is the beginning of a final showdown, shall we say, of the passage to a higher expression of Mars, which until now has been a unifying force mainly in times of war. Violence in all spheres of life may finally be tempered by the higher attributes of Mars. It is not a question of eliminating those aberrations but of transforming them, of channelling the negative to positive expressions of the same component of the human consciousness; no doubt this is what Bedi intends by the ‘new politics’.

India’s sports record since independence has been dismal on the whole, given the size of her population and an undeniable proof of latent talents. I have dealt with this topic to some extent in a recent article posted on PCU, Growing Pains.

The linking feature in all that tennis embodies involves the 3 number-power once again, the third principle of the essential formula of Reality expressing Transcendent, Universal/Cosmic, and Individual/Soul. Within this structure tennis provides a field to assess individual application with a global flavour; this is because while tennis is certainly an individual sport for the public, at the same time it is international, being perhaps the most appreciated televised sport along with football, the latter corresponding to 6 in the triangle and not 3, being a team and not an individual sport.²

The international character of tennis is special as an observational field in a compact display (the tournament) because the character not only of the individual but of that individual within the whole can be easily detected. The player offers an insight into character and strengths or weaknesses of the nation of birth, even though players move about the world for training or competition. They seem always to retain their national identity, not merely restricted to citizenship but to the type of energy and their approach to the game. In a word, tennis as an observational field reflects diversity in unity when studied within the Canvas.

More importantly, the Mars factor can be closely observed in players and the role that undermining plays in the ability to fend off suggestions in the midst of the game that deplete the player of the energy required to ‘conquer’, ending in the fact that the player, more often than not, defeats him- or herself. Champions of the game display the capacity to silence those suggestions, so evident in the final moments of a game; one can note this in the player’s body language and a variety of other displays that television allows us to observe close at hand. We observe what the inner fibre of a champion is, especially when we follow the entire tournament. Courage is the outstanding characteristic when Mars is prominent in a natal horoscope. This is displayed in sports and war. Both fields have the capacity to unite the masses.

All of this is captured in the 3 angle, within the context of all the components of the Gnostic Circle; above all we learn that the individual is an essential item in the expression of harmony, perhaps the most outstanding aspect of evolution on Earth. Harmony is the Earth’s very own contribution to the Sun’s planetary family, requiring as it does a convergence of matured elements for the purpose.

In this way following a tournament can be a rewarding experience, as it has been today accompanied by Obama’s speech and Bedi’s exhortation for a ‘new politics’. When the first grand slam of the season began down under, I saw more clearly than ever how truly ‘the symbol of the future realisation’ shows us the way to reach that supreme goal: the solar ray casts no shadows. In other words, there is no tilt left or right of the axial ray. The poise required is upright beneath the Ray, perfectly poised in time and space without any need to deny their role in the manifestation of Truth, as all spiritual paths have done. Rather, the Mother reveals in this new symbology that it is precisely via these Earth measures that the realisation comes into being. The symbol’s display of shadowlessness makes it evident that the deviousness of corruption and self-interests that have plagued politics and almost every field of human endeavour find no place in the new dispensation. That condition applies to all levels of society and all of its expressions, even those we believe to be beyond these recognisably base instincts such as philanthropies, charities, human rights campaigns, etc. To be shadowless even in pursuit of the good is one of the most difficult and highest achievements possible.

The Master Key

As a further example of the synthesising capacity of the new cosmology, India’s ruler is Capricorn/Makar, the Cardinal Pole known in astrology as Cosmic Midday – precisely when no shadows are cast. Her physical body (space measure) describes the ancient Capricorn hieroglyph . This correspondence cannot be dismissed as mere coincidence, the way science is wont to do more often than not when faced with the inexplicable. I bring this up for two reasons. One is the error Prime Minister Modi made in addressing the international business community in Mumbai on 16 January last. In an otherwise fine speech the point I made earlier in a letter to him was ignored, it seems, concerning Ganga’s plight (June of 2013) and the message the sacred river was conveying. I have been trying for the past twenty years to drive the point home. He stated in English, italics mine:

‘Friends, Makar Sankranti was celebrated on 14 January. It is an important festival. It is the beginning of Uttarayan, which is considered to be a punya kaal (auspicious time). The Lohri festival also coincides with it. On this day the sun begins its journey north. This marks the transition from winter to spring…’.

The Prime Minister and the whole of the Hindu Samaj would find no error in the above statement, though surely the astronomical flaw should be evident. But it is not, and therein lies the problem, especially since the sign’s hieroglyph describes the actual physical body of the undivided nation, making accuracy especially important in all matters involving this ‘auspicious time’. Capricorn of the tropical zodiac cannot be separated from the shortest day of the year, the December Solstice which is the legitimate uttarayana, the north Cardinal Pole. This is sacrosanct in all higher studies of cosmic harmonies throughout the world; but only in India, with Capricorn as her astrological ruler, have the two been separated, therefore making the aberration especially damaging.

The prime minister fell in with the Nirayana astrologers and the fundamentalists of science that have succeeded in convincing even upholders of the cosmic harmony that the two must be separated. He has followed suit, though still clinging to what makes the true Makar Solstice (22 December) auspicious and sacred among all the months of the year: the moment of increasing light, or, as the prime minister put it, when the transition from winter to spring occurs, with the Sun’s light beginning to increase. But how do we experience this increase on Earth? It is by the days becoming longer from uttarayana onward – or, specifically, the winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere.

Scientists claim that astronomical calculations prove Capricorn/Makar is ‘no longer there’ (i.e. coinciding with the Solstice); or as Al Biruni wrote centuries ago in India, his book of travels, ‘it [the zodiac] has moved on’. According to him and a number of post-Vedic astrologers and astronomers, the zodiacal sign has shifted and moved away from the Solstice, ‘The solstice (December) has kept its place but the constellations have migrated, just the very opposite of what Viraha had fancied,’ India, II. Over the centuries Al Biruni’s influence has finally borne fruit when the entire nation now believes, and science steps in to ‘prove’, that Makar is no longer connected to the Solstice, the shortest day of the year and the only time we can scientifically claim that the light begins to return.

Thus is superstition born. No one questions this contention. No one dares to question what has now become the ‘authoritative’ word even in matters sacred where science can never be the final authority. Science has declared that Capricorn is ‘no longer there’. And lamentably the vested interests of pundits have reaped the benefits in the many available panchangas by proffering, each one, a different calculation (called ‘correction’) as to when that elusive and shifting dial reaches Capricorn, somewhere out there in the constellations, beyond the solar system and for all practical purposes irrelevant to our experiences on Earth. Since each one comes up with different calculations, because there can be no accuracy in the way science is approaching the matter, this ‘uniqueness’ assures sales.³

No one ponders over the fact that the only measure that never shifts and that therefore can be truly scientific, requiring no correction, is the Earth’s own and unique contribution to the System, her balancing Cardinal Poles marking off, with easily calculable accuracy, the Equinoxes and Solstices. These do not exist in the constellational sphere astronomers have imposed on Nirayana post-Vedic Pundits, though any deep study reveals that the Cardinal Poles are fundamental for an accurate cosmic connection, so central to the Dharma. Every Hindu temple supports me in this statement.

The cage of physicality disconnected from ‘the other side’

Let us penetrate more deeply into this vexatious issue and discover why this so? Why do astronomers prefer the constellations rather than the time-tested fourfold Equinoxes and Solstices, markers of our seasons? If we wish to be charitable, the simple reason could be that the constellations consist of stars which can be seen with the naked eye for the most part; they satisfy far more the demand for tangibility than the tropical zodiac with its ‘arbitrary’ division of the ecliptic plane into 12 parts – hardly arbitrary when we consider that the 12 are Aditi’s sons, but this ‘seeing’ requires an opening to the soul’s light rather than just the physical. After all, scientists would argue, ‘there is nothing there’, a plane yes, but empty and unable to justify the ancient call for the ecliptic plane to be divided into 12 ‘steady and unshifting’ parts. Contemporary science, so tightly closeted in the cage of physicality, has disregarded perhaps the single-most distinguishing feature of life on Earth – nights and days of equal and unequal measure – and opted for projecting the measuring Eye out to the distant stars where there are no such balancing pillars, with no other argument to support this uniquely Indian aberration than its monopoly over Measure. They brush over the fact that the pictographs of the zodiac which they project onto the clusters of stars do not provide a neat 30 degrees for the benefit of calculating the months they cover connected to the months of the universal calendar; their respective degrees vary wildly. The constellations are larger and smaller and therefore the connection cannot be done satisfactorily, without fudging as it were. And this provides another insight into the sacred arts: it is measure that matters and the lived experience – that is, the days and nights balanced firmly on the four pillars of the Cardinal Points. This is described accurately in the Rig Veda as the ‘circle that shakes not’. Why have astrologers succumbed to this illogical imposition without even a whimper?⁴ 

Thus both, astronomers and Nirayana post-Vedic astrologers, perhaps unknowingly, serve vested interests, the signature of the old way, the world that is imploding due to the tilt this side and that (of the midday solar Ray that casts no shadows). That the extreme edge of this tilt has been reached is revealed by the cosmic harmony itself when scrutinised in depth because the shift according to Indian scientists and pundits has carried Makar/Capricorn 23 days away from the December Solstice to the 14-15^th of January (the discrepancy between 14 or 15 January is because pundits of the north and south differ in their calculations by sometimes 24 hours and more!). The 23-degree tilt of the Earth’s axis to either side of the Equatorial plane is the farthest degree possible, at which time the Solstices north or south occur. At that precise moment indeed, as the Prime Minister noted, the ‘light’ begins to return – i.e. from shortest day the Earth moves toward the longest at the next Solstice in end June. Before that she reaches the equilibrium of Mahavishuva, the 21^st March Equinox, initiating spring in the northern hemisphere. The perception of light beginning to increase and therefore making Capricorn/Makar so special for India was entirely correct; but then the Prime Minister got it wrong when he made the mistake of equating that 23-day late festival with the shortest day of the year or uttarayana, the highest point when the Sun casts no shadows – Cosmic Midday. This is the burden astronomers have saddled the civilisation with, by not respecting the boundary between the sacred and the profane where they belong by virtue of their own self-inflicted limitations.

In my reading of the situation, with sufficient corroborating evidence, this fact of a 23-degree/day ‘slippage of time’ imposed by Indian astronomers, coinciding with the 23-degree limit north or south of the Equator that carries the nation 23 days away from the true Makar/Swar gateway, describes the abyss upon which we stand as a civilisation: one ‘step’ more and we ‘plunge’. (See my The Partition of India on PCU where the effects of this mis-measure are explained in detail.) In ‘the symbol of the future realisation’ the tilt is brought into balance directly beneath the ray of the true Makar/Capricorn Midday Sun. To attain that goal science/astronomers would have to admit that they have been misleading the nation by measuring in the wrong circle. What is the likelihood of that coming to pass?

Finally, the Capricorn symbol-map is the item of single most importance in the new cosmology that made all the discoveries regarding India possible, including the USA/India axis which can be ‘read’ in the cosmic harmony provided that the Earth’s own measures of time and space are accepted and respected. Then only is the new cosmology made applicable.

Appendix

When the Rig Veda explicitly states ‘the circle is one’, this means that there is indeed only one circle: the ecliptic plane of our solar system that sets the measure throughout, and not the greater sphere of the heavens, simply because that equinoctial plane is as if the dial of a clock. The larger cosmic face (heavenly sphere) in this case becomes the face of the clock divided into 12, just as the face of the ecliptic – where the planets travel including the Earth – is also divided into 12, as well as our clocks on Earth. All-important is the dial in movement over these faces – the one face/circle; and that dial is propelled by the Time-Spirit, poised squarely on Earth at the centre of it all, working through the instrumentation of the Vishnu Line of Ten – his very own Emanations, to provide the required accuracy in Time and Space. I present here a diagram that will help understand the differences and the confusion that presently exist.

In this composite design the innermost circle (Tropical) is divided into four – the Cardinal Points. Capricorn/Makar is the highest whose 0 degree is indicated by the Cardinal cross, or the beginning of the sign; in time this is 21-22 December each year. The next circle (Sidereal) is the current astronomical/Nirayana astrology calculation as to where that cross would fall if Makar is supposed to BEGIN only on 15^th of January – i.e., 23 days/degrees into Capricorn/Makar. This shows the distance away from the actual Solstice.  The outermost circle (Constellations) presents the zodiac of astronomers, comprised of the 12 pictographs imaginatively constructed into that sphere – on the order of the child’s game of connecting the dots! And this is accurate science?

In current Indian astrology the constellation/sidereal sphere becomes relevant as a backdrop for certain stars (nakshatras), though today the latter is given entirely too much importance in Nirayana post-Vedic astrology. That sphere, disregarding the stars and considering it only as a ‘canvas’ onto which the zodiac is projected, pretends to be the very same 360-degree circle divided by 30 degrees for an equal 12, just as the ecliptic plane is divided. Onto or into that circle the background motion of the ecliptic plane is projected; the movement/dial is called the Precession of the Equinoxes, again highlighting the relevance of the equinoxes and solstices. It needs to be repeated time and again (with the hope that someday the message will get through), there are no equinoxes and solstices in the constellations. The movement that calls forth the passage of the astrological ages (yugas), indicates for Earth inhabitants where the societies and civilisations we create stand in the vaster movement of the Ages. Given the aberration and consequent mis-measure, India has no means of accurately locating her civilisation’s position within the larger cosmic cycles. The result is necessarily only chaos in an area where accuracy is paramount and clarity comes only with the true Vedic Divine Measure provided by the Line of Ten.

Finally, projection onto the extended sphere by the dial/plane is only pertinent to the movement of the astrological ages and cannot be used to construct the horoscope of the individual, or even of rituals on Earth. For the latter the tropical zodiac is the means to deal with individual incarnations properly. Unfortunately, mis-measure using the wrong circle, as illustrated, has created confusion where none need exist, and has been the result of astrology being considered a pseudo-science. There can be no claim to science with the current practices; at the same time, scientific methodology as we understand it today cannot be applied to this most sacred of the 64 Arts, mother of all the rest and the one responsible for connecting what transpires on Earth to the cosmic surround in an applicable manner, as demonstrated in the cosmology of the New Way.

The Gita makes the role of the Vishnu dasavataras abundantly clear when Lord Krishna states, I come yuge-yuge. This ascertainment of his role in the quest for accuracy is more than clear: it is his primary task, for reasons described throughout the postings of Puranic Cosmology Updated. This is how we redeem the Earth (in mythology it would be described as a battle between good and evil, the latter standing at the threshold of taking possession of the planet). Redemption (or the victory of the Gods) is accomplished by the descent of the Emanations of the Time-Spirit honouring her measure, her contribution to the harmony of the Solar System. This redemption is not done by a miraculous appearance interjected from beyond our measures of time and space, or a Second Coming on the order of an appearance in the heavens, descending as a figure of light with flaming sword in hand, as comforting as the image may be. It is the Earth herself that is ‘redeemed’ when she is no longer thought to be a hell to flee from but rather a sublime contributor to the harmony of the cosmos, thereby making the 9^th Avatar’s prophecy of a life Divine on Earth that much more realisable.

For this reason PCU has been centred largely on clearing the cobwebs away that cover what I have called the backbone of the Sanatana Dharma – i.e. its Axis. Interestingly, and to prove the consistency – that is, why there is confusion in the issue of the Avatar, as well as in making the correct cosmic connection – it is be because the two go hand-in-hand. We can only recognise who the true Emanation might be when we ascertain his ‘cosmic credentials’, and those are discernible only when the correct circle is utilised for the calculations that alone can reveal those credentials. Of most essential importance is the correct location of Makar Sankranti. Vested interests (alias, asuric hostile forces) can, for a time, hide the greatest truth the Earth has ever known – but only for a time.

The time-bound necessity of War

Certain events of enormous historical significance are analysed in this series within a cosmological framework. These are the two World Wars of the last century; and on the subcontinent, the declaration of Emergency (1975) which has coloured the Indian polity ever since. The objective in choosing these apparently disconnected events is for the fact that they provide an opportunity to apply certain formulas of the new cosmology as expressed in two separate diagrams that are major keys of knowledge to help us understand the workings of the Time-Spirit in the evolutionary mechanism.

To begin, I will present a summary of the underlying premise of this analysis. There is a backdrop for events transpiring on Earth which, though ignored, is on the order of a cosmological constant that serves not only as pace setter, but also provides a key to a deeper comprehension of those events. Without this constant a thorough comprehension of the causes of certain happenings is lacking. Foremost is the fact that this backdrop is the element that integrates perception. Our assessments lack the quality of integration – however much we may believe the contrary – that comes with the cosmological perspective, based as it necessarily is on a vision of the Whole and Parts within the Whole. We may believe that historical, political, social or economic analyses are adequate to help us gain a more all-inclusive understanding of our world, but when the new cosmology is revealed the former assessments, which at one time appeared adequate to explain those happenings, in this new light are seen to be shallow. Above all, they lack not only integrality but also a sense of purpose. We participate in an evolutionary process the beginning and end of which we are ignorant.

For this series I have chosen two events as models to demonstrate that every happening on Earth is part of a comprehensive whole. That ‘whole’ is pre-existent. It is a pattern formed by the elements that constitute our solar system, with its ecliptic divided into 12 zodiacal signs/months spread across our 365-day year, and populated by a family of 9 planets that together provide the ‘pulse’ of the Earth, of nations, of individuals. This would be the overall pattern describing the field in which evolution transpires. We have the pattern/field in static form, as it were, but by adding dynamics – or Time as the motor of evolution – we journey through that special field adding each year, each day, each hour the parts required to give expression here on Earth to the harmony provided by the 9 and 12 of our solar system. In this way, by a far more conscious involvement, we begin to set in place a planetary society, the aspiration of enlightened souls across the ages. The time for actualising this ideal is upon us, for it expresses the heart and soul of the content of our current Age of Aquarius.

By adding dynamism via the time factor, one item above all is demanded. We begin with a circle which is the ecliptic where the Earth and other members of the Sun’s planetary family travel. The task before us is to locate the exact entry point into this gigantic cosmic timepiece, its 0 degree; without a precise knowledge that can unveil the Zero Point, as Earth beings we would wander aimlessly in the vast cosmic sea, tossed hither and thither as if compass-less – for indeed that is the situation we find ourselves in at this crossroads of destiny, as participants in total ignorance of both the static and dynamic nature of the cosmos in which we abide. Taking birth on Earth at this particular stage of the journey is significant in that only in our present Age can we become fully aware of this grand harmony we help to express.

To illustrate, I have chosen as the first example the two world wars of the 20th Century; taken together they will not only help to unveil the contours of the field/circle of Earth’s evolutionary trajectory, but in choosing this example the vital importance of locating the correct Zero Point is demonstrated; without that precision the exceptional importance of the World Wars in the history of the planet is not fully appreciated – that is, the role they played or their function in the cosmic scheme. Further, with these two world-changing events we have confirmation of the date I have given for the beginning of the Age of Aquarius – 1926. This analysis will prove the correctness of my calculations.

War as cosmic necessity

The causes of the First World War are less clear than those of the second, and this very fact gives us a clue to the character of that devastating conflict and the role it played in evolution. Without 1926 as the Zero Point of the Aquarian Age, little could be conclusively gleaned of the purpose of World War 1. We do accept certain facts that stand beyond dispute, as, for example, the trigger of Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s assassination. But once on its way, the War’s defining characteristic must necessarily be its first-ever global reach: For the first time the major nations straddling the entire globe became engaged in the conflict. It is in this context that the War can be properly assessed; this must per force colour our perception of a conflict that decimated an entire generation.  Seen in a certain light, of all the conflicts the world has known, this, the first with international involvement, appears one of the most noble, as this analysis will establish.

To fully understand what exactly forced this world-wide engagement it is necessary to explain certain aspects of our time experience – namely, past, present and future. These also have to be taken as a composite whole. We experience the flow linearly, a straight arrow from past through present to future, as well we must if we are to be true to our presence on planet Earth. But there is a thread passing through the sequence. It means that the future pulls the events of the present to itself – establishing thereby a secure course and direction. In this way our journey through evolution is not at all aimless and chaotic: the Field this play moves through confers order, cosmos at all times. The only problem is that though actual participants, we are blind to the mechanism as it transpires.

This process holds for individuals as well, with the added proviso that the position an individual occupies within the structure, based on his or her level of development, establishes whether or not that pull forward is direct and single-bodied or a lunging forward into myriad directions or potentials; that is to say, whether or not chance has a role to play. The operation must be viewed as a vertical pole rooted in the horizontal Field that is the same for all creatures and for the entire solar system. For the purposes of this study, the vertical is best viewed as a ladder. The individual component experiences Time from a determined rung on this vertical ladder while the base remains the same. The higher one moves, the wider the perspective and the more comprehensive the understanding of life on Earth.

However, regarding the passage from astrological age to age, chance plays no determining role. This is proven by the two world wars of the last century – a century that brought to a close an entire millennium, making way for a new one. The First World War thus served to close the Age of Pisces (234 BCE to 1926 CE). Given this special placement (in time) the principle characteristic of that devastating global experience is readily seen as a process of dissolution. The First World War can rightly be termed the first conscious experience of cosmic dissolution, with the objective of ridding the world consciousness of any encumbrances that might overburden civilisation to the point of being unable to move forward, relieved of appendages that once served a specific purpose but which, if left in place, would be a useless baggage in the new age that was to open before humanity in just a handful of years.

Those elusive ‘cosmic directions’

To better understand the mechanism, it must be explained that there are two ‘directions’ simultaneously in operation in the cosmos. Evolution is subject to these directions which are experienced as pressures influencing world events according to the strength or weakness of either of the two at any given point on the evolutionary scale. These are Contraction and Expansion, or Vertical (contraction) and Horizontal (expansion). The effect is that until a certain maturity is reached in the progression of human consciousness through the Ages, the Vertical that operates through gravity is experienced as Inertia because it is out of balance with its counterpart. The duller the perceptive capacity of individual or collectivity, the greater the arresting force of Inertia, in which case great shocks or upheavals are required to counter the force of Contraction/gravity so as to free the forward thrust of the Time-Spirit. Such was the situation prevailing at the time of the First World War. The call of the hour was a rapid and decisive advancement into the new Age, during which period great strides would be taken in all spheres of life. The colossal loss of human life and property and the destruction of entire cities, with international consequences, gives an indication of the powerful hold of Inertia that had to be broken.

The borderline (in time) was 1926; as stated, the new age just ahead was exerting its power to counter the pull of Inertia. Encumbrances serve the iron hold of Inertia; they play this role for individuals and for a civilisation in the expression of its destiny. Their usefulness is precisely to keep the movement within a specified time frame; but once the moment arrives for a shift, those once-useful attachments have to be shed. The First World War served this noble purpose.

However, to be noted before continuing is that only when oneness and integrality enter the conscious experience of humanity, even in reduced proportions, can dissolution replace destruction. That is, the process then offers a level of maturity that allows for a transformation of this order to occur. The dismantling then acquires a very different configuration. A certain hitherto unperceived control over the operation springs to the forefront; at which point only a willed blindness could cloud perception, bringing to mind the prophecy of a wise Sufi sage, ‘At this time, if real change is not brought about…then there is a very real danger that the earth will revert to a state of primordial chaos. It could be, if enough work is not done at the highest level soon, that we will see the end of civilisation in our lifetime. Already we have seen such deterioration that it is questionable just how much can be done.’

And further he states, ‘But it is those who have reached the knowledge of their essential unity with God who will forge the way and build a new world. Before this new world can be brought into being, however, it is said that there are to be two confrontations. The first confrontation will be between those who know and those who do not want to know, and the second between those who know and those who will have to know.’¹

To begin the process as revealed in the two World Wars, the Earth must indeed present an integrated image of herself: the full contours of her body must come within the determining experience of life on Earth, which in and of itself indicates the more enhanced capacity of the human being to appreciate the new times we are experiencing. Indeed, the last century closing the Age of Pisces and opening up to the Aquarian Age served to integrate the globe as well as to provide the early impetus for the explorations the Aquarian Age would demand – i.e., space travel. It is not so much that the explorations presently undertaken in space are truly new age and worthy of the demands ahead; they are merely the first stirrings. Before long they will appear to us as stone-age pursuits when the true space age dawns.

The full body of this third planet was explored and uncovered by sea during the Age of Pisces, a sign of the Water element. With that task completed under the influence of the Water element, the emphasis shifted in the new Age of Aquarius: the emphasis is now on the Air element to which Aquarius belongs, and hence the focus on air travel and space exploration.

For now the aspect that is most important to note is not exactly space travel but civilisation’s indomitable thirst to extend boundaries in whatever sphere and in all areas of existence. This is part of the cosmic formula planet Earth adheres to because the passage through the zodiacal ages falls within the embrace of one of the 12 Manifestations. The map below graphically explains our location in the flow of the astrological ages.

We are in the 9^th Manifestation, as the arrow demonstrates, the whole of which belongs to the 9^th sign Sagittarius, noted precisely for its compulsion to extend and exceed boundaries. This more expanded influence colours the three ages that comprise each Manifestation. At our present station these are Pisces, Aquarius and Capricorn, moving backward through the wheel due to the Precession of the Equinox that establishes the direction of the rotation over thousands of years. The location on this time wheel we are analysing is the first and second Ages of the 9^th – that is, the passage from Pisces across the border into Aquarius where we are presently positioned.

Foremost to understand is that there is a Spatial geography and a geography of Time. In this Age of Aquarius our location within the latter has been disclosed, a revelation reserved only for a civilisation that has matured to the point of being in a position to appreciate its significance. We are, in fact, 87 years into the Age of Aquarius, the whole of which consists of 2160 years. The First World War began 12 years before the crossing (1914) and bore the full impact of Dissolution: an entirely new world stood beyond the border and the Spirit of the Age set about quickly to rid civilisation of the many encumbrances that might impede the Aquarian expression that lay just ahead. For instance, one of the main casualties of that War of Dissolution was the monarchical (and feudal) forms of governance, largely based on family dynasties. Contrarily, the new world set the tone for a different type of governance – democracies and similar processes in which the people are engaged. The compulsions of the Piscean Age with its penchant for monarchies, was being dissolved as the Age was nearing its end. Central to the process and perhaps most important of all, it must be added in conclusion, was the focus on the until-then accepted right to colonise and exploit. Once into the Age of Aquarius, the existence of colonies was destined to end.

Capricorn is the Mountain is India. This new way aphorism fulfils the specifications of the sacred texts for temple building in a more tangible manner because what is conveyed in the physical structure is vitalised by the connection with the zodiac. On this ancient basis what the architectural and scriptural prescriptions contain can be made factual through Number and Calendar, provided the correct systems are used, unlike the Hindu calendar in India today. Capricorn is ever and always the key for India, its ruling sign. I have explained some of the new Vedi’s temporal applications in the earlier parts of this series; we must now include the final ingredient: India. How does the Mother’s chamber accommodate the subcontinent in her design in applicable, factual terms? If it is a hymn to Saturn and Saturn is India’s planetary ruler via Capricorn, then India must figure centrally – and indeed she does. She occupies pride of place.
Capricorn is the Mountain is India is the Globe is 70cm – so goes the complete equivalency, highlighting once again the Globe of the Core measuring 70cm, as specified by the Mother. The correspondence comes through the Capricorn hieroglyph laid across the landmass of Akhand Bharat with its longitude and latitude coordinates as shown in the diagram below; they measure exactly 30+40=70cm of the Globe.

Not only does Gnosis reveal the time factor of the appearance of the 9^th Avatar but also the place. The 10^th hieroglyph delineating the integral 30+40 of the subcontinent landmass shows us graphically where the passage from 9 to 10 must occur. This is an example of how integration takes place – hinging on the realisation of the 9 becoming 10. The 10^th sign is both time and place (space). It is the living abode of Mahakala, Mt Kailash descended on Earth as illustrated:

Further, if we lay the zodiac across the bands of longitude of 30 degrees each, the same as each sign, amazingly Capricorn begins at 60E, as indicated above. When the zodiac is laid across latitudes Capricorn also covers India (6N to 36N). (See The New Way, Vol. 2, Chapter 9 for details.) In both directions Capricorn ‘covers’ India, a further proof of the wisdom of the Ancients who could ‘see’ this rulership without the need of satellites.
To complete the understanding of Saturn’s role, we must return to the symbolism of the Mountain which I referred to in Part One. Prof Ramachandra Rao considers that the Gopuram of Hindu Temples was an evolution of the primitive funerary mound to the more sophisticated Mountain symbolism of the Gopuram. However, it is actually India’s zodiacal sign, Capricorn/Makar, ruled by Saturn, that has given rise to the Mountain/Gopuram because Capricorn is the sign of the Mountain, uttarayana, or the northernmost and highest point in the wheel, known as Cosmic Midday when the Sun casts no shadows, ‘…the (central) Mountain on which rests the sun at midday, and this is the only Mountain worth mention among all mountains’ (Pradyumnesvara temple inscription).
This knowledge was alive and well in the Puranic era; temples across India bear witness to this fact. They were repositories of the same secret knowledge of the Rig Veda. What can be known of India’s destiny ignoring these facts? If we refuse to see the consistent coherency of her destiny via the 10^th sign, Capricorn/Makar, how can she physically become the World Mountain, centre/soul of the Earth? But if the cosmic script itself forms the background of the geometry and later the architecture, the conclusion can only be that the Ancients had knowledge of Time and Cosmos which required the Geometry of Time to understand, through the initiation process of the Journey. That Geometry of Time also lies at the heart of the Mother’s vision and original plan.

In Part 11, the basis was laid for understanding not only the prevailing conditions in India but in the entire world. I would go a step further to state that as goes India so goes the rest.
We all realise that a very dramatic turning point has been reached on Earth. We witness those ‘crushing circumstances’ the Mother wrote of in 1972 (see Part 4, fn2) seeming to take place before our eyes. Some call them the effects of global warming; for others it is the greed of the ‘creamy layer’ of society across the world finally taking its toll. We see the near total collapse worldwide of economies and crises involving energy sources and supplies, all coupled with a paralysis in systems of governance everywhere. No one seems to have original ideas that can bring solutions to these multiple woes. To cap it all, our cherished Relativity Theory also stands on the edge of collapse.
It is clear that democracy is the best available system of governance, which seems to be imposing itself as indeed the will of the people. But once that will is expressed, by the ballot or as in an Arab Spring or through an Anna Hazare anti-corruption movement on the subcontinent, the task then falls to political leaders to implement that will – and once again ‘the centre cannot hold’ and things fall apart: every area of life today is clearly deadlocked, or else in a state of near collapse. And since we must agree with the belief that people get the leaders they deserve, it is evident that both people and leaders, as things now stand, have to exceed their limits and become something else. This ‘something else’ is the answer. If Humpty-Dumpty has a definitive fall now, he cannot be put together again to resemble what he formerly was. There has to be a new order.
India has the answer. This civilisation has preserved it for many thousands of years. But it is preserved like an Egyptian mummy: some are found handsomely decorated, their tombs filled with gold and unimaginable wealth; while others beneath the Pharaonic level are more modest. Whatever status they once held, in death they are the same: lifeless mummies serving only to call attention to a once-great civilisation, possessor of a knowledge now buried along with the last mummy.
In India there are no mummies, but when Sri Aurobindo wrote in the last century that ‘the soul of knowledge had fled from its coverings’ and only empty forms remain, is it not the same as Egypt? Indeed, the line of higher knowledge was the same for both; but India’s task has been decidedly more onerous because the Earth she presides over now stands on the brink of creation or destruction. And it is only the secret Knowledge that can save the world. We need to understand why, and in what way.

In the Rig Veda verses with which I began Part 11, we are shown the full extent of the problem, as well as where the solution lies. The Rishis intentionally recorded that the most dangerous stage of the Journey was in completing the 9 to reach the 10^th – the period of victory. In Puranic tradition the Goddess requires 9 (nights) to overcome the mighty Mahishasura. The 10^th is also the day of victory. And now we learn from the supramental Gnosis that evolution itself stands in the 9^th Manifestation. By the laws of equivalency, the monthly journey of the individual realiser is extended to the entire Earth. If that 9 to 10 was a critical point for the traveller on the Path, we understand that the entire world as a whole must make the crossing successfully in our very Aquarian Age. This entails or demands a process never before experienced on Earth: the harmonisation of Being and Becoming, of the One and the Many, of Unity and Multiplicity, of the Centre and the Periphery. The latter provides a clue to t,he answer we seek: the symbol of the Sun which Sri Aurobindo stated is the symbol of Supermind along with the Square. Indeed, in combination they form the Core of the Mother’s chamber for which reason she stated that it is ‘the symbol of the future realisation’. But it was not just a static diagram that would fit the description. Like the Rishi the Mother was specific: It is the play of the solar Ray on the Core which is the realisation the Earth calls for in her most intense moments of aspiration. That play becomes integrated when the vital breath is breathed into the Core and the static diagram comes to life and time moves to the fulfilment of the golden seed of Truth-Consciousness that lies at the heart of all things in this material creation of 9 – indeed, the number-power of the Vertical, of all that moves.
For the Rishi the 10^th stage was the solar world, Swar. The word is commonly translated as heaven; but today heaven means beyond time and space and certainly all that moves and is therefore perishable and impermanent. Whereas Swar is a dynamic reality. We know this because the noble Rishi has told us so. He never meant a victory beyond life through death and in a heaven removed from this Earth. He used an Earth measure itself – the months and the years – to reach the solar world. How is it then that heaven of all religions came to be a reward after death? Or else, how is it that all spiritual paths place their goal in a static realisation, a peace removed from all that moves? The Rishis were more than clear: Swar is of the Earth and not the Beyond. That is why the Rig Veda is so secret and unintelligible. Those who call themselves ‘Vedic’, even astrological pundits, are missing the forest for the trees.
The answer is found in the zodiac script when keys of the supramental Gnosis unlock those ‘doors’ of the months and years and we enter the chamber the Mother geometrised and Sri Aurobindo prophetically described in his epic poem Savitri, decades before her vision:

There in a hidden chamber closed and mute
Are kept the record graphs of the cosmic scribe,
And there the tables of the sacred Law,
There is the Book of Being’s index page,
The text and glossary of the Vedic truth
Are there; the rhythms and metres of the stars
Significant of the movements of our fate:
The symbol powers of number and of form,
And the secret code of the history of the world
And Nature’s correspondence with the soul
Are written in the mystic heart of life…

The Rishis left India millennia ago. Before leaving they set in writing the Rig Veda, possibly around 1500 BCE. Nationalists will howl nonetheless here is the rub: Indologists are correct when they date the Rig Veda at 1500 BCE, though the civilsiation orally bequeathed this treasure to the world millennia before it was penned. The world was changing and would demand their withdrawal, but they assured humanity the survival of their wisdom – the only place on Earth, it needs to be stated – once the secret of the text would be unravelled, the task of the 9^th Avatar and the new line of Rishis.
Contemporary Hindu astrology/astronomy registers the onset of the current Kaliyuga as 3102 BCE, specifically with the passing of Sri Krishna, the 8^th Avatar of Vishnu; at least in this it is more or less accurate. The Epics give us all the data to discover the Evolutionary Avatars’ cosmic credentials in the Map of 12 Manifestations. But if a dark age is said to have begun in the 8^th Manifestation, is it far-fetched to assume that whatever has taken shape in the spiritual domain from that time onward can be said to be un-Vedic, or at least a deviation from that original realisation of the Rishis? Indeed, this divergence has been recorded. The Puranas do make this clear especially regarding the role of Gautam the Buddha. Starting with his birth around 500 years before the current era, paths began to surface through a number of noble realisers of undisputed integrity and proficiency which were gradually carrying spirituality to express the same wave sweeping across the entire world during the Age of Pisces (234 BCE-1926 CE). Across the spectrum the static Beyond became the goal, similar to the orthodox religions of the same period. In view of this unmistakable cosmic wave, it is understandable that the secret of the Rig Veda would fall into oblivion: the realisation of those earlier times was quite different than what we know today as Indian Spirituality. The divide has become so pronounced that many even consider the Puranas to be lesser scriptures, certainly bearing no direct link to the realisations of the Rishis. Making his regard for the ancient text clear, and the failure of others to grasp its fullest meaning, in the beginning of the last century and at the height of the Aryan Invasion Theory and nature worship frenzy, Sri Aurobindo wrote,

'I believe the Vedas to hold a sense which neither mediaeval India nor modern Europe has grasped, but which was perfectly plain to the early Vedantic thinkers. Max Müller has understood one thing by the Vedic mantras, Sayana has understood another, Yaska had his own interpretations of their antique diction, but none of them understood what Yajñavalkya and Ajatashatrou [Rishis] understood.... It is because we do not understand the Vedas that three fourths of the Upanishads are a sealed book to us. Even of the little we think we can understand, much has been insecurely grasped and superficially comprehended....
Shankara left so much of his text unexplained or put it by as inferior truth for the ignorant, Vivekananda found himself compelled to admit his non-comprehension of the Vedantin's cosmological ideas and mention them doubtfully as curious speculations.... Only when we thoroughly know the great Vedic ideas in their totality shall we be able entirely to appreciate the profound harmonious and grandiose system of thought of our early forefathers.
Religious movements and revolutions have come and gone or left their mark but after all and through all the Veda remains to us our Rock of the Ages, our eternal foundation.... The Upanishads, mighty as they are, only aspire to bring out, arrange philosophically in the language of later thinking and crown with the supreme name of Brahman the eternal knowledge enshrined in the Vedas. Yet for some two thousand years at least no Indian has really understood the Vedas.’

Those who do believe in a superior role for India on the world stage are limited in their understanding because they lack the means to acquire what may be called a transcendent view of the situation. By this I do not mean extra-cosmic or detached from the material concerns life on Earth imposes, but rather a more total overview in time and space. The Map of the 12 Manifestations gives us the opportunity to examine developments across the globe in a far more comprehensive manner. The ability to view the passage of the Ages in long spans of time, to which the western mind is not accustomed, was also derailed when un-Vedic systems displaced the wisdom of the Vedic Age. While continuing to view the evolution across vast cycles called Yugas, the clutter that began to accumulate around the pristine nucleus of wisdom, due to the intrusion of Science, gradually overpowered the sacred and the key to the Yugas was also submerged in non-essentials; and finally downright errors were made. The result is that while the Kaliyuga is a reality we cannot ignore, just what that is and its duration is not grasped within the context of the real evolutionary movement affecting the entire globe simultaneously.
In this light another problem surfaces which affects seekers on all sides of the material/ scientific spectrum. In the mind of the staunch nationalist India stands somehow excluded from the reality we see about us. The same occurs across the world, even when Spirituality is not a claim to fame as we find in India. We witness a severe polarisation setting in everywhere. It is always ‘we and them’, or ‘we against them’, or we hold the sole truth, others are in the falsehood. The situation need not be described further; sensitive analysts will agree that this polarisation syndrome plagues the world as never before.
The point to bear in mind is that all positions, all opposites are correct within the totality of conditions prevailing at any given moment from the position that those conditions are experienced. Truth, of any side of the spectrum – material or spiritual – is indeed relative. Relativism is the paradigm of our times: everything is true yet also false, depending on the position of the observer. Yet if truth is the deepest essence of our existence, as the sages affirm, we must be able to recognise the eternal within the temporal, and how they both evolve together.
The keys of knowledge I have provided in this series are the means to understand those ‘total conditions’ at any given time in history. A student of Aeon Centre of Cosmology, with a degree in physics, explained the position with regard to the possible collapse of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity: It was not an error and was useful and applicable within a certain parameter, as Newton’s had been earlier. But when parameters are forced to expand, then the former constants and assumptions break down and a new formula arises, he explained.
In other words, relativism works within a system that may be described as fragmentary. It cannot function within the parameters of a unified system; hence the Unified Theory of theoretical physics eludes scientists.
This is what is happening across the board, not only in theoretical physics and scientific technology but in all spheres, including the spiritual and religious which many believe stand beyond these material boundaries. And in this 9^th Manifestation ruled by the 9^th sign Sagittarius, the key lies precisely in a constant expansion of those parameters/boundaries. Being the sign of speed par excellence, this can safely be recognised as the signature of our times. We stand witness to the accelerated drive in progress to re-set our boundaries.
In the above light examples can be provided to prove that the hardened positions of certain theologians and historians bear witness to what afflicts the entire spectrum: static-itus. Interestingly, when analysed with the parameters evolution itself provides, as seen in the Map, these hardened positions that appear opposite and uncompromising are entirely true within the framework of Relativity. As an example, let us take Creationism that has become the centre of unending controversy in the USA.
Broadly, based on the Bible scholars and theologians of Creationism sustain that the world was created by God in 7 days around 4000 BCE. There was no evolution from ape to man, no gradual development: God created the world as we know it today. Followers of the religions that have evolved out of this Biblical paradigm – referred to as People of the Book – staunchly oppose evolution as one of the firm pillars of their respective creeds. On the other hand, scientists dismiss even a hint that such ideas can be taught in educational institutions and planted in young minds, in this day and age with so much data to prove the premise false. But is Science not suffering from a piece-meal vision like everything and everyone else? With the perception of the totality of conditions prevailing at any given time, these positions, which remain radically opposed to each other, are in fact true. But, one may ask, how can both be true while being so divergent, though proposing to explain the same thing? The religious theologian will argue the matter from his transcendent position; the scientist from the platform of materialism which, in extreme cases, even denies the existence of a Creator at all. Yet, I repeat, both are correct.
The problem lies in the theologian’s inability to understand the scriptures and evolution with an overview such as the Map of 12 provides. In so doing, we realise that the only sin is fragmentation which afflicts the entire spectrum of human existence. Because of this the deepest truths the Scriptures themselves hold are hidden from the faithful and scholars alike. Because of fragmentation a division has been created between the Old and New Testaments and therefore their integrated contents cannot be used to solve the conundrum this divisiveness has engendered. The conflict around Jerusalem is a case in point. It is deeply symbolic in more ways than one.
Through both Old and New Testaments there runs a single thread which we may indeed consider to have been set in motion around 4000 BCE. The truth these Scriptures reveal is not at all in conflict with the truth of the evolution of consciousness on the planet; rather, they themselves explain the position better than anything Science can offer. What began in 4000 BCE was simply the onset of a process that would cover the next 6000 years, during which time the two positions, scientific and religious would be stretched to their extremes. It has reached a peak in our very times.
The Bible describes the specific parameters of the Mental Creation; that is, Genesis itself explains the fragmentising processes of Mind, starting from a single unit and developing to aggregates, to a multiplicity that eventually loses connection with its origins (the Fall). This is the nature and the property of the Overmental Creation, out of which religions have emerged. It was not the beginning of the world. It was actually the beginning of the end of the old consciousness or the human condition as presented in the Old Testament, best understood as a species under the rule of Mind, in transition through Overmind on the road to Supermind. This mental preponderance in the human species has given birth to both positions as we know them today, so aptly described by the Mother of her experiences in April and May of 1962. To put it bluntly, science while condemning Creationism simply reveals its inability to understand what afflicts both science and spirituality simultaneously and how this condition has been accurately described in the sacred texts of the Middle East themselves, which, over the past 2000 years, have taken centrestage and moulded human consciousness across the globe. As the Mother explained, only a third way beyond both could solve the impasse created by these two extremes. What is that Third Way? The Mother promised that the formula would come and indeed it has. Its most valuable asset is the ability it grants to ‘put each thing in its place’.¹
In the Map the unwinding, shall we say, set in at the time the Kaliyuga began in the 8^th Manifestation of the Overmental Creation. Both developments, east and west, would have begun at the same time. But the Biblical paradigm finally set the standard for the world we live in today and which appears to be collapsing at an accelerated pace, because we have entered the next stage, the 9^th, or the Supramental Creation. The role of India on the world stage is to set the new paradigm.
In the last book of the New Testament the apotheosis of our times is prophesied in Revelation. It closes the arc which began with Genesis. The trajectory from Old to New indeed describes the passage from Mind to Supermind, by which ‘all things are made new’. This is the value and power of unity-based perception.
In the context of Creationism and Science, both, it needs to be emphasized, are intrinsic parts within that Whole described in the Rig Veda as ‘the one circle’, and they have both evolved to the positions they hold today across the same period of 6000 years, the time India was engulfed in her own Kaliyuga. Religions have obfuscated their real and valid contribution to the evolution of human consciousness by dogmatising a fragmented truth contained in their own Scriptures. This is clearly the divisive action of Mind as regent of the species in extremis. To escape this cage of Mind, parameters have to be reset now and man must exceed his inner and outer limitations. Science for its part is thrust before the same stone wall if the end of Relativity has indeed arrived. What, then, is to be the new constant faster than the speed of light? What will replace the compartmentalisation of Relativity to introduce a true Unity?
The Vishnu Line of 10 covers the entire time spectrum during which period the three principles involved in this evolutionary process have come into prominence. To facilitate this task Avatars have appeared during the 7^th Manifestation (Mental), the 8^th (Overmental), and the 9^th (Supramental). While preserving this knowledge for humanity, it has been useless as a tool to help Indians understand the unique destiny of their own civilisation, except to inspire ideas of grandeur such as to become another superpower – a model that itself is also in extremis. The mechanics of obfuscation have been the same in India as elsewhere, and over the same time period as the Bible establishes for the ‘beginning of the world’: both Puranas and Epics set the start of the Age of Darkness at the very time the Biblical theologians have established for the ‘beginning of the world’. The real issue is, what ‘world’.
The way out of the impasse, or this critical crossroad of destiny, is to put each thing in its place within the Whole. But to do so requires the ability to embrace both parts and whole in a simultaneous vision of Oneness.
